The two biggest mysteries we have yet to solve in science are the origin of life, and the origin of the universe.

We understand a LOT about the processes from just after the start of the Big Bang, right up until now.

And evolution? It's the most studied scientific field ever (and I'm still flabbergasted at the (diminishing) number of religious that deny it).

But how these two phenomenon (life, and the existence of everything else) came to start, we don't know yet.

And so the studying of these difficult questions will continue, and the religious will continue to claim the their "truths" as solutions, until the day we solve them using the scientific method.

"Entropic Flux" is meant to represent one of many possible universes, existing in a froth within the multiverse.

“Time goes forward because energy itself is always moving from an available to an unavailable state. Our consciousness is continually recording the entropy change in the world around us. We watch our friends get old and die. We sit next to a fire and watch it's red-hot embers turn slowly into cold white ashes. We experience the world always changing around us, and that experience is the unfolding of the second law. It is the irreversible process of dissipation of energy in the world. What does it mean to say, 'The world is running out of time'? Simply this: we experience the passage of time by the succession of one event after another. And every time an event occurs anywhere in this world energy is expended and the overall entropy is increased. To say the world is running out of time then, to say the world is running out of usable energy. In the words of Sir Arthur Eddington, 'Entropy is time's arrow'.”

The Creation Process:

I thought it about time I used my other favourite fractal program, JWildFire .. So I loaded up the program and hit the randomise button a few times until I found this:

I then chose a colour scheme that made it easy to see all the elements of the different formulae, and got to work, tweaking and playing with camera angles:

Once I'd found a concept and framed it, the colouring began... And woah, did this take long. In the end, I settled for some beautiful pinks/blues/cyans/magentas:

From there, some serious post-work in photoshop was needed... As you can see above, the image had too much blur, and too much fuzzy blue over everything. So I used several different Photoshop adjustments to fix the situation:

I agonised over those adjustments for another good hour or so, and then finally added some tilt-shift blur for some depth-of-field =) ...

For anyone who's interested in how we all got to this point, I highly recommend checking out The Big History Project. It's pretty incredible how much you learn about the origins of complex life and before, in a series that is easy to follow.
