5 Minute Freewrite: Monday - Prompt: Paint
I am an artist.
I am not an artist.
I hold the brush.
What does the brush want?
I am an artist.
With the white canvas blinking back at me. Doubt, idea, direction, composition my mind as blank as the canvas. It used to be so easy. Today, the paint will not speak to me. If I make a line, somewhere to start. A mark. A face. Anything. What does any of this waste of time mean to me?
I am an artist.
I am not an artist.
With frustration I fling globs of color at the blank white enemy, watching as drips of paint stream down its face.
Am I an artist?
I will finish this piece, like so many before, and place you amongst your family in storage. The paint I have filled this closet. And pull out another white canvas.
I am an artist.

Lovely! I didn't know you existed, and now you do!
You exist too! How wonderful!
I especially love those barren trees.
Indeed brother.
that dark art shakes feelings and hearts, in a good way!
makes you think and just stair at it.
you and @velveteendream are some special talents.
kind of people we need to keep feeling alive in this robotic life.
keep that brush painting <3
Right on man. Gotta avoid those pre-programmed lives haha! @velveteendream and I like to keep things on the dark and macabre sometimes. Beauty in the disturbing sort of thing. Thanks for the motivation. Need to lock myself in the studio for a day or three soon.
your post is the best
Artist! And a very good one. This is a wonderful tale of the self-doubt that all of us who jump into the Arts suffer. I love your freewrite!
Thanks, and thanks for the visit. Oh to the burdens of being an artist, right. The struggle is real.
It most assuredly is, my friend.
you certainly are an artist!! :)
Thanks
You paint with your words beautifully, too.
This one hits a little close to home.
Thanks, funny how that goes. Not always like riding a bike.
The blank canvas is the greatest enemy we could ever encounter. The same goes with any art-related profession. Once we put something, anything, into it, the fear of inadequacy disappears with every stroke. Nice work with this!
Thanks man. True story there. That's why I'm always leery on doing live art shows and live painting. To be an artist is to make mistakes, knowing they can be reworked and corrected. That is, unless you're Bob Ross. His mistakes are happy.
I like the opportunity that blankness brings, that today it is my words that will paint the world. My words, my ideas, my imagination, my characters, my themes. And when it is all finished, my creation. Even if there is nothing, that nothing comes from me.
Rather than from painting for someone else.
Here's today's prompt:

Nice. Good point. From nothing we are able to create our worlds and ideas. Though, I do like collaboration projects that build off of each other's creations. It's always a surprise seeing the direction someone takes a piece before or after I've worked an image or story. They come up with things I would never have thought of.
