Aliens are the only explanation 🐙👽👾宇宙人じゃないか

"Mothership", 30 x 40 cm, oil on canvas


I have painted this painting as a birthday present for a friend. She was turning 60 and I was at a loss of what to give her. I thought perhaps I'll paint her a flower🌷🌸🌺 , because you really can't go wrong with a flower painting as a gift 🎁...
But at the time, I just started to work in oil again and I absolutely wanted to make a landscape.

I also enjoy being silly :D

昔付き合っていた人のお母さんのために描いた一枚です。60歳の誕生日プレゼントに何を贈ればいいのかしばらく悩んで、花の絵を描けば喜んでくれるんじゃないかと思いついたのです。ただ、その時期に静物画よりは風景に興味を持って単純に風景と花を合わせることにしました。

単純でふざけるのが好き^^

This is how a giant flower floating in the middle of the sky came to its existence.

Now I had trouble coming up with the title for the painting and the reason behind it.

Why would a giant flower be floating in the sky?🌌🌃

I was rewatching Star Trek around that time and I thought to myself: "Aliens seem to be the only good explanation"🐙👽👾🤖

My alien friends have patiently observed earthlings and came to a conclusion that there are so many flowers around, that nobody will notice another one floating in the sky😆.

問題は何故こんなにでっかい花が空に飛んでいるのか？描きながら理由とタイトルのことを悩んでいました。ちょうどその時期に毎晩スタートレックを見直していたのです。
きっと宇宙人が地球人をしばらく観察して、花が人の周りに多く咲いているから、空に花が飛んで来てもきっと誰も気づきをしないだろうと思ったんじゃないか。なので、タイトルは「母艦」にしました。

Also, this friend happened to be the mother of my then boyfriend (now ex). That's why the title "Mothership" was a natural choice.
