STREET ART #37 – New pieces of art in Kristiansand (Norway)

in #art5 years ago (edited)

DSC_01.jpg

Kristiansand (southern part of Norway) has got some new pieces of art this spring. One of them is painted by a Dutch artist, who also had an exhibition in one of the galleries while she was here. The problem with plastic in the oceans, is something that is getting a lot of attention these days. Both these pieces of art have plastic as a theme. The first one is a mural painted by Yasja Ligteijn. The other one is partly painted and partly made up from trash - mostly plastic! Unfortunatly I don't know anything about the artist.

Yasja Ligteijn (March 2019)

This beautiful mural is done by the Dutch artist Yasja Ligteijn. The  child is underwater when he discovers a sea horse. There is a deeper meaning to this colorful mural. The sea horse is holding a cotton swab that links to the problem of the plastic in the sea.

Yasja was born in Amsterdam, but raised in natural surroundings of South Holland. She has a wide variety of works. In addition to being a street artist, she is also doing portraits, abstract paintings, illustrations, comics, storyboards, etchings, animations etc. This spring she visited Norway and Iceland. Here in Kristiansand she had an excibition at the Mint Galley.

Mint Street art gallery

The Mint Gallery is a «street art» gallery which opened here in Kristiansand last year. It is an urban contemporary art gallery, which showcasing an exhibiting mix between emerging and established Norwegian and international artists. Their goal is to bring people together, discover talents and spread art. They want to change the idea about traditional galleries by creating something complety new.

Two seals

An amazing sculpture! It is a large piece of art in a parking lot. It is made of trash and paint. On a distance it looks like a if it is painted, but when you get closer you will see that the two seals are made of trash!

Look closely and you will see what makes up the whole sculpture: toalet seats, helmets, pieces of trash cans, a radio.... I did not try to press the button, but a friend told me he did. It played!

That is very interesting and thoughtful. I've seen some art like that in Bragança. I think you'd love that city. There is street art everywhere. 😁

I like the first one! the colors and the smiling face :) But also the idea of using trash for the seals. First time we have some art like this ! I googled Bragança....I have to add that place to my list of places to visit in Portugal. (autumn 2020). But it is far up in the corne of the country! But as you told me a few days ago, you can travel from south to north in half a day. Porto is a MUST as well. I am sure when I seriously start to research and plan, I might end up with a need to stay at least 14 days :) I would not have thought about Bragança, if you hadn't mentioned it. Thanks :)

It's a small city. 2 days, at most, and you'll be out of stuff to see. 😁

There might be other smaller places to visit around the same area? and off course, I have to do some wine tastings! Portugal makes excellent wines :)

Yes but you really need a car. Buses and trains will only take you so far.

I will keep that in mind. Probably I am going to depend on busses and trains :) That's a good way to travel. Meet peple, look at the landscape :)
