Lessons From Steve Jobs

in #apple6 years ago (edited)

Steve Jobs was one of the greatest visionaries who influenced the world in recent times. Apple's products during his time were way ahead of those of all rivals. While the same can't be said for the products that were launched after his untimely demise, there are many lessons that Steve Jobs left for the world to learn from.

One of his favorite quotes is the one below:

I slate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been.

This timeless statement made by the famous ice hockey player and super coach Wayne Gretzky and quoted by Steve Jobs, tells us to focus on the future and not dwell on the past. For product creators it is an invaluable lesson.

As everyone knows Steve Jobs had predicted the demand of music players and launched the iPod much before other companies had their act together and were still producing CD players.

Another aspect of Steve Jobs life that is a good lesson is to begin early. He started his entrepreneurial journey at a vet young age full of zeal and ideas. He was able to implement his plans and achieve success early with out having too many responsibilities to burden him.

He stressed the importance of education by an example he used to give. During his college days he completed a course in calligraphy. This was instrumental in visualizing design when he created his first computer the Macintosh. The fonts and typefaces were designed with the help of his background in calligraphy.

One of the best ways that you create the best product is to have experts around you who make it possible. Steve Jobs recruited the experts like Steve Wozniak and others who helped turn his dreams into reality.

He was a great risk taker who gambled on his success. Not each and every one of his products were big successes. In fact the iPhone was not expected to be a huge success that it now is. Most people criticized the launch of the iPhone because it was expected to cut into the sales of the iPod.

That did happen to some extent because no one buys iPods when they can get the same function in an iPhone, albeit at a higher price. But the success of the iPhone eclipses any decrease in sales of the iPod.

These are just a few examples of invaluable lessons that Steve Jobs left for everyone to learn from.
