Cat Carriers – Why They Are A Must Have!

in #animals7 years ago (edited)

Not sure if this is the case with all cats, but it’s true with our coddled kitties.

Our three cats are spoiled rotten. They would FREAK if we had to take them from our home and put them in a new environment. But, then, they would FREAK even more if we abandoned them.

Take Me Too!

In fact, we only have two crates instead of the three we really need. Knowing this, we knew there were countless cat owners in Houston who were not prepared to evacuate their pets from their homes.

Maybe Not!

Can’t Transport with Baby Chicks!

Definitely Not!

Bye-Bye Donated Crates

Because we didn’t need our cat carriers, I drove to flooded check points in my neighborhood looking for first responders who may need them. At the third check point, the first responders ferrying people on boats said, yes, we need 2 crates NOW. I hope the crates we donated saved a bunch of furry critters!

Hello New Crates!

These are the two crates we bought yesterday on Craigslist to replace the ones we donated. As you can see, I put some treats on the new pet carriers to entice them to explore.

Tips

  • Always have enough crates handy for the animals you have. I am still on the lookout for one more cat carrier.
  • Check with Craigslist and other social sites because you'll save a ton of money. I only spent $20 for both replacement crates. It was supposed to be $15 for two crates but I only had a $20 and the seller didn't have change. The crates online normally cost $35 each.
  • Make sure your cats are comfortable with their crates before an emergency. I bring out my crates from time to time and put treats in them so they get used to going in and out of them.
  • Donate your carriers to needy causes if you don't need them.

Great idea to donate them to the flooded areas! I am sure people appreciate that and the first responders having some way to safely get them from one place to the other. We recently had to take our cats to the vet and all we had on hand was a box we had bought apples in. It worked great as there were holes all around it for them to breathe in but they weren't big enough to escape out of. We had to buy a huge crate when flying our dog from Dallas to Panama City. Crates are a good thing to have!

I'm so glad you found apple boxes for your kitties 🤣🤣! My cats love cardboard boxes. What brought you to Panama? Very cool!

Various opportunities brought us here as well as a change of culture for us and the kids. My husband plans to build houses and it is a little easier here than in the USA. There is a great expat community in our town. We just really enjoy it so far! :)

cats are such a very funny animal to leave with
there are just so adorable

They are the best ever!

It is so awesome you donated your carriers for flooded kitties in need! SO generous and thoughtful! We have 3 cats and adore all of their wonderfully different cat characteristics. Thanks for being a super human! :)

LOL. You have 3 too! You know exactly what I mean. Can you imagine trying to transport them to safety without a carrier? I have to get one more carrier. As you can see, I couldn't stuff 2 cats into one crate if I tried. They've eaten too many treats. Thanks for your encouraging comment. :)

That was such a good gift!! Scared cats can scratch really hard - or worth, run away, maybe up a tree, where nobody can get them.
We have two dogs and they like to sleep in their crates at night.

Yes, there really is something to the whole scaredy-cat saying. And, yes, crates for dogs are so important for evacuation so you can keep them contained when there are lots of other people and animals around. That's so good they sleep in them. You can take their bed anywhere. :) My dog is almost 100 pounds so I had to fold his crate up and set it up in the garage of my sister's house when we left the house. Oh, the things we do for our little critters.

For sure!! Ours are little. A Pomeranian and a min pin. a 100 lb dog needs a big crate for sure!

Cats are indeed adorable. Beautiful post. Upvoted and following u. Please review my below post if possible. https://steemit.com/nature/@nainaztengra/my-love-for-sunsets
