Aladabra Mining Tortoise
Like miners these Aldabra giant tortoises dig and climb down underground . They are not after mineral riches like diamonds or gold nor treasures but are desperately searching for shelter . If they are not in the coral cave in late morning they will be baked and dried to death inside their shells by the hot Aldabra atoll's fierce sun. This incredible behavior was just recently discovered by biologists Dr. Dennis Hansen and Rich Baxter from the University of Zurich. This tortoise is fast asleep relishing the 3-4 degrees C cooler temperatures of the cave
