Delight Falls In Love With Responsibility

in #animalphotography6 years ago (edited)

" Care and responsibility are constituent elements of love,
but without respect for and knowledge of the beloved [person],
love deteriorates into domination and possessiveness."

Hello again! This is Kursie and Chokie housed together when they're both almost 2 months old. So, as I have already tackled the story of this two lovely queens, to read the story of the two just please click the link followed:

For now, I'd like to make use of this opportunity to tackle some helpful tips on how to take care of your rabbits and guineas based on my own experience.

Basic Tips to Take Care of your Rabbits and Guineas

These adorable, social creatures are superb buddies for people who take the time to study and learn about their needs and are willing to comply not just for a day but for the rest of their pets’ lives.

• Set up safe housing.

The photo on the left shows my rabbits caged outdoor and I used the bin for guineas in the right-side photo to housed them indoor but don't forget to put some wood shavings to eliminate odors.

There are several options to house them either indoors or outdoors though the safest option would be for them to live be indoors. Always remember to provide them with a well-ventilated and adequate space where they can freely hop around and doesn’t need to be out just to take for exercise. Domesticated animals’ characteristics are now altered and are different from their wild lineages. Take for example their endurance when it comes to drastic changes of temperature which is far different in the wild, especially in the hot summer months. But keeping them indoors doesn’t prevent them from being attacked by predators for some animals like cats or dogs can’t live with them in harmony, not all the time. They can even encounter a heart attack or much worse, die of fear when sensing, seeing, or hearing the sound of nearby wild animals.

• Make everything pet-safe.

For the cages, both I used 4 Mesh Open Weave Stainless Steel Wire to avoid corrosion and also as protection for these kinds of pets really like to chew anything within reach.

For the reason that they really like to chew, make certain that completely all electrical cords and outlets are out of reach and are covered to prevent severe injury or even death. Their chewing habits can also result in poisoning if the wrong objects are left in the open say for example ointments and alcohol which are commonly find in every household and be aware that not all plants can be eaten by them for some can be poisonous to them.

• Set up a litter box.

IMG20180313112611.jpg

As father has stored many egg trays, so I opt to use this one for it's very convenient to change from time to time for it's visible when it's already used up and has a wide availability in the market.

They can simply learn to make use of a litter box, exhibiting a natural inclination to poop and pee in one area. For safer countermeasures, stick with organic litters made of paper, wood pulp, or citrus for other media could lead to allergies. Be sure to put fresh hay in the litter box every day, as a lot of them like to have a snack while sitting in their litter box or like to eat hay and poop at the same time.

• Provide a well-balanced diet.

I gave them sweet potatoes and eggs as treats and I supplied them with wheat germ for nourishment aside from feeding them with green leafy vegetables and pellets daily.

It’s very important for them to receive a proper diet for they have the complex digestive physiology to avoid further health complications for it’s the main suspect in every detrimental health issues. A basic diet should consist of hay, vegetables, fruits, and pellets, and the most important above all, make sure that their bowl wouldn’t be emptied with water. Be cautious of foods that aren’t allowed for them to eat and don’t lower your guard when there are children around for kids are more susceptible of feeding junk foods, chocolates, or anything to them once they notice its charm.

• Provide them with amusements.

Their natural behavior commonly includes chewing aside from running or hopping and tends to get bored easily. So, must remember to provide them with a variety of toys to arouse their interest but then again, it doesn’t have to be destructive. Avoid objects with sharp edges, or rubberized materials that they could gnaw into bits and gulp.

• Handle with care.

Never let a rabbit’s body hang free, lift by the stomach, or pick up by his ears for their bones are so delicate and weak that if not accurately restrained, stressed rabbits can breach their own spines. And base on my experience, as I’m also selling rabbits once the cage gets populated as they could fastly produce babies, customers ask me for some advice once they find something unusual about their rabbits mostly when the rabbit’s ear disfigured which is the common result of mishandling. Never allow children to carry them without adult supervision for it takes their trust to cuddle them with full control.

• Give them a proper grooming.

Slowly introduce them in bathing procedures but make sure that water won’t make its way inside their ears and eyes, and make use of soaps intended for them. You can also neuter them to ensure safety during handling.

• Practice having vet’s consultations.

Don’t get used to basic aid for not all diseases and medical approaches can be found on the internet because the proper assistance is needed when you have to utilize chemical dose for your pets. It could even lead to fatal problems when inadequately given. So, don’t hesitate to seek for experts once complications are beyond your capability.

Lastly, nobody wants to be alone so keep in mind, they need to have a partner and giving them your time, effort, and love completes the recipe of their happy life. So be a responsible life caretaker once you decide to have one. Always remember, it’s a life, not just a thing.
