Introducing the Energy Observer. Zero Emissions Never Needs to Refuel. Plus it's Sexy.

Hate Paying Taxes??!? Sustaining your own ambitions without the need of anyone else is the ultimate form of freedom.

Not needing to pay money on a regular basis for your energy is probably the best way to say "I serve no one."

This project has been in the works for several years. To design and build a ship that never needs to refuel. It’s not a sail boat, though this particular ship was once a world class winner in sailing.

It's about to set off on a 6 year trip around the world.

Refurbished with the masts removed and Hydrogen power, solar and wind replacing it. This bad boy of the seas only needs to hit port to resupply for food and water. Though you could fish, catch rain or find many other ways to sustain your life at sea.

Making those stops incredibly far and few in between.

You don’t have to believe in global warming or any end of the world scenario to realize that sustainability is the best way to never rely on your government to keep you alive. That’s why in America wind, solar power and collecting rain is illegal in far too many states; hell China has more freedom than America in this regards, Chinese can keep all and any water that falls from the sky on to their head. Even the news is controlled in the USA on a scale comparable to China and Russia which is supposed to be repressed isn’t it?

Anyways, let’s control my rant and get back to this cool boat. They claim to be the first but that’s bollocks, straight up. The world was conquered using sailing ships which were %100 zero emissions but they weren’t using electricity to connect to GPS or the luxury of hot running water.

This ship is fully modernized. With all the bells and whistles enough to get around the world, technically, indefinitely.

I admit the price tag is incredibly high. Just to design and build it cost more than most other boats of comparable size. It’s not gold plated, it can’t fly.. yet, nor does it have the answers to all your problems but it certainly has the ability to say “Fuck you” the man you pay your power bill to.

Price to build €4.2m ($4.72US million)

Let’s see what make’s it work.

No one says it better than the guys at Wikipedia.
“this experimental vessel is going to be the first with autonomous means of producing hydrogen on board and without emitting greenhouse gas emissions using renewable energies. The boat will produce and store hydrogen using seawater thanks to an energy mix involving: 3 types of solar panels spreading over a surface of 130 square meters, 2 vertical axis wind turbines, 1 traction kite and 2 reversible electric motors of hydrogenation.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy_Observer

It uses several sources of free energy that we can all get our hands on and at least one that’s not so easy for us all at the moment.

Hull Specs – type previously was a Catamaran with masts removed = double hull with a connecting deck.

Length 30,5 meters
Width 12,80 meters
Weight 28 metric tons
Speed 8-10 knots

Wind Power

It has 2 bad ass turbines to keep the electricity pumping when the sun is hidden or sleeping.

Solar Power

Maximizing daytime hours to generate the power needed to keep the electronic systems running.

Kite

We don’t want to be running the propulsion systems full power all the time. The kite helps keep the boat moving in the right direction when the winds prevail.

Hydrogen

“If there’s no sun or wind, or if it’s night, stored hydrogen – generated by electrolysis powered by the solar panels and two wind turbines – will take over,” he said.

Don’t be afraid Hydrogen power is going to blow a hole in the earths atmosphere or crust, it just doesn’t work that way. It is a pretty cool piece of equipment though.

Think about H2O. The ‘H’ (hydrogen) we need to live and is found in water readily available on earth. The O2 is a building block of life on earth. All life here relies on it. Some creatures exhale the stuff, such as trees, plants and… wait for it… algae my favourite thing.

It’s a pretty cool boat. Learn all the dirty details of what is about to revolutionize the seas.

Very, very interesting, this is like a dream of mine!!
This is awesome.

This is a super hot idea. BTW, one of the image, the 4th one, isn't loading for me. I tried to reload the page and same issue. not sure if it's just me

that sucks. my next post will explain all.

Let's keep an eye on this one! :D

It looks pretty awesome

Like yes this is very cool, but is this really the future? not where I'm sitting. I'm 24 in California, rent is high. More people are renting now than ever. I've always wondered why renewable technology isn't developed to target this huge demographic. Yes I hate paying taxes, and bills and service fees. I would be very motivated to find a way to put my apartment off the grid. Run my utilities by myself, after all ever I have access to the sun right?
Anyways, this post is cool as shit, I was just curious what your thoughts might be on this, this is something I always think about.

One of the big set backs for renewable energy, in some states not all, it's illegal to use wind and solar power as the states wants people to rely on the for energy needs. I don't know the specific laws in California but it is one of the 'greenist' states so should be ok.

You could easily and for less than $200 have a small solar system that covers your lighting needs at least. Portable and easy use so if you live in an apartment the panel can sit inside by the window as you don't need to attach it the building.

I hope the future of boating with sustainable zero emission technology. Regardless of the environmental benefits it will allows ships to never need to port, so they could get really big, much bigger, since they wouldn't have to go in shallow waters to refuel.

Solar power isn't really all that great for the environment because the manufacturing of the panels creates a lot of pollution.

Thanks for your interest and reading.

what a dream! of hybrid solution in a floating sexy lux catamaran boat house!
