Val d'Isere - A Place for Everyone
There are literally thousands of ways to present Val d'Isere. This is a place with thousands of beautiful faces.
Val d'Isere is a beautiful town in the French Alps, tucked into a picturesque valley of river Isere. Located at an altitude of 1850 meters it is great destination for both - summer and winter. A small town full of flowers that offers some of the most beautiful views at the surrounding mountain peaks.
The seniors among us will remember ski jump competitions. Back in 1992, there was even an Olympic competition in that discipline.
The area where Val d'Isere is located has the densest concentration of ski resorts in the world. Tignes, Les Arcs, La Plagne, Les Trois Vallées and many others are located in a relatively small area besides Val d'Isere.
One of the toughest stages of the Tour de France race has been roaring through Val d'Isere since 1938. Cyclists pass through this picturesque Alpine town as they descend from the highest paved pass in the Alps - the legendary Col d'Iseran at 2,770 meters above sea level.
One of the most popular bike parks in the Alps is located on the slopes of the mountains that cover above Val d'Isere and neighboring Tignes. This is the location of one of the most difficult stages of the MTB World Cup.
Val d'Isere is, you probably won't believe this until you see it with your own eyes, one of the favorite places in the Alps for fishermen. The surrounding glacial lakes are rich in fish, and fishing at such high altitudes is a very unusual experience.
Petrolheads adore the Val d'Isers for the already mentioned Col d'Iseran - the highest pass in the Alps, but also because it leads to some other legendary passes: the beautiful LIttle Saint Bernard, the famous Les Huez, the mystical Mont Cenis, the unjustly neglected Col de la Bailletta, the crystal clear Col de Fresse and many others.
Last but not least, Val d'Isere is located on the outskirts of France's oldest national park - Vanoise. This pristine park will be something you need to see with your own eyes. A bucket list locations, trust me.
In the end, all of these sites are a great source of topics for landscape photographers. Whether it is beautiful scenery, hectic glacier rivers, beautiful sunsets or peaks covered with snow and ice, this area will give you endless inspiration.
