IDEA: Two additional BUTTONS to meet and greet Brand New Steemit-Users when they publish they Very First Article and one to deal with haters, spammers and hecklers.

The First-Post Button

I love discovering brand new users who has got no love and bring them up to the attention of others. Many groups wants to do something about this, but what I suggest is that we add a new list to the top of steemit.com so that we all can see when brand new users write their very first post on steemit so we can meet them and greet them in person, give them some help and encouragement, tips to improve their post and help them understand the system.

There is a lot of projects that want to help new users, but I think the best way is if the open society of steemit can observe them easily themselves and the experience of joining steemit and posting the first time can become a personal experience that we all can participate in without having to belong to a dedicated group that may or may not turn out to be as good or helpful as the initial intention.

The "Block This User" Button

Facebook has it, Twitter has it, Reddit has it - There is obviously a huge demand for it and would be very helpful for the individual user to block people they don´t want to interact with on steemit for their own personal reasons.

The Block-Function probably don´t need to be displayed as visible as I illustrate in this design, but every user on steemit.com need to feel safe to produce content without hecklers coming in and spamming the comment-section and disturbing everyone in the theater.

This will make all the flag-wars stop completely.

Thanks to @acidyo for bringing up ProjectNewbie to our attention, and to everyone who engage in these questions and debates, really awesome of you :)

Thank you for reading, please leave a good comment below or come on SteemSpeak Radio and talk with us about what features you would want to see on Steemit in the future.

As a new user who's initial experience with steem was somewhat tainted by the random flagging, I am definitely in favor of adding in ideas and new features that help tailor towards improving the new user experience.

For the platform to grow, it is still going to need to bring in thousands of new authors. The user experience will be key to whether or not they stick around. I think these are great suggestions for improvements and applaud you for thinking about the little guys! I can't express how great it is to see such a strong and helpful community here!

Couldnt spammers and such block the cheetah bots and other known curators?

Even aside form that, it seems kind of gamable. If youre putting your post out there, in a way its in the public domain, at least as far as others expressing their opinion of it.

I think most users don't need to be treated like hot house flowers.

@sigmajin autonomous bots like cheetah could be on a white-list along with other service-bots.

without sounding like too much of a tinfoil hat guy, who gets to decide who is whitelisted (and can vote on anything they want) and who is just a normal guy who can be blocked from voting. Because its not just bots that curate.

Maybe some workable solution could be found, but to be honest, I i question the need for it.

When stellabelle made that post that you called her out on, i thought the idea of someone needing "protection" against people saying mean things to/about them was ridiculous. And I think you and tuck both claiming that you need protection from harassment form each other is equally ridiculous.

Its not harassment, its not stalking, its not abuse. Its someone (on both sides) saying something you don't like and/or don't agree with.

My biggest fear on steemit is that people will begin to equate critical or challenging speech with "abuse" "harassment" "stalking" and other criminal terms. In this whole big feud, nothing any one of you has said rises to the level of a criminal act. Nothing either one of you has done is something that the other should want(or be given) protection against.

Ill direct you to the same case i directed tuck to. Falwell vs. hustler. Part of free speech is candid, sometimes critical dialouge. Part of it is sometimes parody. Steemit should be fostering this, not attempting to stifle it.

"Its not harassment, its not stalking, its not abuse. Its someone (on both sides) saying something you don't like and/or don't agree with."

Indeed, I agree with that. If protections against curators and commenters are to be built first we need to define what "abuse" is. Protections / filters and the like shouldn't be arbitrary based only on subjective opinions. If people are so thin-skinned they can't handle the criticisms of others perhaps they shouldn't be posting in a public place. Better they see criticism as an opportunity to evaluate their own behavior and position and whether it has positive value.

It's seems it's just adding another layer of complexity. Let's keep things simple.

I like both your ideas and @acidyo's #projectnewbie as well.

I think it is awesome you guys are having a positive influence on Steemit and I would like to do the same, so I hope you don't mind if I #payitforward.

[Crowdfunding] Steem.Gifts and Steem.Market need Steemians help to become a reality!

The block feature is a really good idea. Someone who seems to flag for fun and posts about his flagging achievements, flagged my last post. Not surprisingly he is getting a lot of retaliatory flagging on his own posts. I did not retaliate myself however, thinking it's better to just ignore him as he probably gets a rise out of people flagging him back. A block feature would be a great solution.

Yes. Great idea for getting new people recognized early on, based on their first post to make a large impact.

The block function is apparently coming, according to l0ki's post:

In case you haven't already heard, Steem is going to be introducing some pretty awesome new features. There is going to be groups, names rented by an account, and the name account will allow open membership as well as invite only and user blocking (to stop spamming and harassment), and each group will have a tradeable token that has its own marketplace between tokens and Steem.

I know I could use it for one bully troll.

Take care. Peace.

I propose to add information about the number of views the post for more informative.

Best idea brother! makes it easier for new comers to get a following. First post will determine their value here.

Great idea @fyrstikken! You are a genius!!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

@fyrstikken

Check the suggestions I made earlier today. I actually mention something very similar

https://steemit.com/steemit/@kyriacos/last-night-i-dreamt-about-steemit-10-suggestions-to-make-the-platform-grow

Definitely like these ideas! I am still new to the scene, and tho I have added several post, I am still unsure of exactly how it all works, but I am a self learner and sadly work has gotten in the way of a few days of learning. So far I love it here, it isn't the same ol' song and dance as with other social media platforms. Trolls are everywhere, sadly, so the block feature would be nice, but I think the first post feature would be amazing. Steemit is still young, so if we had a way to reach out to newcomers, it may keep them around and help it grow and become even more amazing.
