About my work.
Relatively small assemblages or arrangements are constructed from flowers, weeds and plants, combined with other natural materials that I find in the local bushland or surrounding urban streets.
Ice and water have been ideal mediums for me to explore my love of transparency and multiple layering.
Just as an artist who creates art works in the natural environment has to accept that the work may be shattered and scattered by wildlife, or erased with the incoming tide ~ So too does my work with ice and water require an acceptance of the temporary nature of this art form.
A fuller description is in my introductory article: The Heart of Immortality
Magical Moments is not a 'challenge' or a 'contest.' More like a 'Curated Gallery' where selected contributions will be Upvoted and Resteemed and in time awarded: In some as yet unknown way.
If you wish to contribute to Magical Moments read my article: 'Velvet Green' where I first introduced the concept of Magical Moments.
Your article can be an image or set of images and/or words that have the power to transport your audience to the special space (outer and/or inner) that you were in, when you experienced that 'Magical Moment.'
Beautiful, delicate and ephemeral, of course. What good luck we have with cameras... I readed your reply to @ewuoso ... what a friendly guidance! Although I know all the principles you have exposed and I have never violated them (in a natural way, as common sense principles) I was very pleased to read all your recommendations
Thanks so much @bluemoon. I never thought of myself as a 'photographer' but just used photography to record my art work (drawings and paintings.)
But when I started playing with collage, using images from magazines, I decided it was time to learn photography to use my own imagery. So I went back to art school to study photography part-time for a few years.
Now, I absolutely LOVE photography as an art in its own right ~ As well as in conjunction with making ice and assemblage works like this one.
I'm absolutely delighted that you took the time to read my conversation with @ewuoso. I hope you've had a look at some of his posts since then?
@ewuoso's post of the animals he cares for: I am not ashamed of what i do attracted the attention of the @ocd OCD Team, @resteembot and @reblogger as well as support from @dumar022 from #whalepower.
Yes, photography art is one the most interesting and isn't easy at all. Many of us think that we do art and we are so far from that. Your "school" can be seen in your photos, I studied many years ago, and I've been working on the whole photo, from shooting to the picture on paper. White and black photos, very little color later, were more complicated but very beautiful. Now everything is automated and you can see the result right away.
I would love to try this someday. What a perfectly beautiful way to make your own magic. Thank you for this wonderful post and to all the people who add so much to your content!
Upped and steemed
Thanks SO very much Denise.
Working with ice has been a lot of trial and tribulation ~ But along the way, I saw so many beautiful micro worlds ~ Especially as the ice melted.
Some of these 'edges' I recorded. You can see them HERE. This was one of them.
Ohhh! I am without words. These are so very spectacular and very unexpected beauty. Thank you.
Hi @allyinspirit. Wow, just wow. You know this post has had me looking and reading over and over for the last 5 minutes!
Using the ice is such an interesting way to create the images. It seems to change the whole feel of the image. The first pic seems really positive to me - like life bursting forth despite the cold ice.
The middle picture, seems sad and almost nostalgic. Like a portrayal of the end of things.
And the last image looks very dreamlike and feminine to me.
Fantastic work!
BTW I found your post thanks to @dreemit giving you a shout out. :)
Thank you so very much Johleen for your wonderful comments. So happy you found your way here from @dreemit's appreciation.
I was incredibly disappointed when the beautiful violet flowers turned brown as they froze. Yes: It seemed that it really was 'a portrayal of the end of things.' Never-the less I photographed it as a record, not thinking to ever publish it.
I've shared it here to illustrate the process of how I work with ice. But when I looked at it again ~ I could see the 'beauty' ~ As brown became russet.
I must admit I'm not so into flowers but after seeing your blog it might change :)
And also I must admit all photos are made as unique peace of art, just teasing to be done in watercolors...
Thanks so much Dunja.
In my early days as an artist I would never use flowers as subject matter. But being introduced to the work of Georgia O'Keeffe changed all of that for me. I started painting enlargements of shells ~ Wish I still had those drawings and paintings now.
I agree. Often when I look at the actual ice pieces or other arrangements that I make and then the photographs of them, I can see how beautiful they could be as drawings or watercolor paintings.
It's taken me a while to decide whether to share them or not, but today I possibly may share some of my very early drawings of camellias.
Do post them, I will be happy to see them, I believe other who are following you also :)
I've just shared them now @jungwatercolor. My heart was beating just a little as I clicked on the 'Post' button. I hope you will like them. We are all meant to shine
I saw them !!! Great, you shuld do this more ofthen :)
I certainly will. Sharing those old drawings is affirming my need and wish to draw again. Now there's no going back. 🦋
Beautiful photos and such wise words from Marianne! She is a favorite of mine, always.upped and ateemed
Thanks SO very much Melinda. I have resisted using Marianne's most quoted quote so far. Knowing one day I will HAVE to as I love it so much.
I had all her early work, back in the days of cassette tapes and most all her books are on my bookshelves. A Woman's Worth saved my life when I needed saving the most! I love that quote too, so much!
She has such an honesty and integrity and beautiful spiritual outlook that has influenced literally millions of people. I haven't read 'A Woman's Worth.' Wonderful it was able to speak to you when it was most needed. Feels like it would be good for me to read too.
I've just introduced my 'need' to draw again ~ Using Marianne's quotes. We are all meant to shine. 🦋
This is lovely. Thank you for sharing. I followed you, follow back
Thanks for your visit @ewuoso. I'm pleased that you've seen something here that you think is lovely.
However I'd like to let you know that people, including myself, are far more likely to:
Have the trust that when you genuinely engage with people, most of them will naturally want to look at what you are doing. And if they are interested in your content, more than likely they will follow you. Speaking for myself, I generally do.
This post by @yourhelper suggests that when you can allow people to upvote, resteem and follow you, of their own volition, they are far more likely to become readers of your future posts.
He also explains how it is FAR preferable to have readers than followers: The Frustrating Experience Of Acquiring A Followership That Is Not A Readership Base In Steemit: The Minnows Dilemma
PS: Your comments don't have to be as long as mine. Just something that conveys you have actually looked at the post ~ And aren't just fishing for one more follower.
I like the first and the third image. M sorry.
Thanks so much for responding @ewuoso. I think I can understand why you would prefer the first and the third images ~ Is it because the blossom flowers are prettier?
No need to be sorry. We are all on a learning journey.
I wish to learn more from u
There are many people you can learn from at Steemit.
I've read some of your posts now. Focus on the things that you are already good at and have a passion and flair for. For instance: You are a fabulous dancer ~ And your poetry has heart ~ And you can take iPhotos. Could you combine these 'gifts' in creative ways?
I've seen one female dancer, here at Steemit, who explains small sections of her dance routines ~ Step by step in different videos. And she is VERY popular.
You could have a friend help you record sections of your own routines perhaps? And then explain them ~ In voiceover or writing or poetry.
Whatever you do ~ Be original ~ Be yourself ~ And that will eventually attract not just 'followers' but 'readers' who love what you do.
That you very much.. This will really go a long way in my life. I really appreciate the effort you have put into this
Truly a pleasure @ewuoso. I believe it has the potential to.
I will follow you now as I'm interested to see what you do now. Take your time and do it well.
This is absolutely gorgeous! What a cool idea. I have only recently gotten into photography, and I've yet to explore like this, but I certainly will.
I'm super happy that your page is of such great quality, I was hoping to do a promotional for someone new (well new to me) with my color challenge post today, and you are definitely it. Should be up in a bit :)
Thanks SO very much @dreemit. There is so much to explore in photography. I would love to work with the land/oceanscape more ~ As well as street photography. However my main interest is not so much photography but making 'things' ~ And as most of the 'things' I make these days are ephemeral in nature, I record them, so that the images become part of and the outcome of the 'creation.'
I've worked with many different creative mediums, and as I began working with water and ice I could see more clearly what the common denominators have been: Transparency with images constructed of multiple layers as well as underlying symbolism and association ~ The 11:11 has been an integral aspect of this journey.
This was an earlier piece ~ Pre-Photoshop days ~ When I made a series of works where one layer constructed on a transparent base was added to a background collage: The Waterfall of Life.
Thanks so very much for mentioning my work in your color challenge post today ~ Such a delightful surprise. I love the idea of sharing the work of other Steemians that we relate to like this.
The concept of Magical Moments is still 'evolving' ~ And, as I don't want it to be a 'contest' I've been thinking of doing something of a similar nature. Just that time gets away. 🦋
This article is very interesting. I really like your creativity and your mentality
Thanks so much @amedeo. I believe everyone is creative. For me, I have focused my 'creativity' on image making and over the years what I call my 'Creative Muse' has applied herself to so many different mediums.
I admire people who can dedicate their entire lives to one modality, like oils painting for example ~ And in this way often become 'masters' at what they do.
But upon reflection now I can see this just hasn't been my way. I have loved all the techniques I've used in drawing, painting and sculpture and I find now that working with ice as my medium, brings a lot of my previous concepts and skills into play.
Ohh, your thoughts are gorgeous ... I also think everyone is creative, but you are extremely creative
