Attention all Future Whales! Newbie Formatting Tips Here! Minnowsupport!
Grey thumbnails, centering, bolding, headers are all difficult for a beginner, at least they were for this beginner, the markdown tutorial was not clear and was incomplete for my needs ...so here is my version of some simple tools at a glance for easy editing!

Bold: ** Place two asterisks before and after the text for bold ** bold **
Italics: _ Place one underscore before and after text for italics _ italics _
Bold & italics: Place three asterisks before and after the text for bold and italics *** both ***
Centering: Place this < center > before the image or text: then place this < / center > after the image or text...(take out the spaces between < and center ~ to show you I had to put the spaces in )
Gray thumbnail: “My picture is not showing up” the problem is that your http address has a (parenthesis) in it ...remove these ( ) and your picture should show up in the thumbnail...
If this does not work ...just rename your picture and make sure there are no parenthesis and then reload the image.
Headers: Headers are made by placing these ` before and after the text

I agree the markdown style can be confusing at times. Never had an issue with bold. Italics or links. My downfall has been the headers.. so frustrating. Thanks
