My Actifit Report Card: May 30 2019
Worldwide 73% of Beach Litter is plastic
This morning was a dull and damp day when I got into e city so I didn’t go for my normal morning stroll before work, but I did get some walking in during the day including around the building and around the city at lunchtime but for this evenings post I will share a few shots inside the Visitors area of the UN Headquarters building and a display that is currently up there at the moment
Starting with the thought provoking Statistic I used for the title of this post, thats a staggering number when you think about it,

and another statistic I was unaware of till I saw this display over half of the plastic ever produced were made in the last 15 Years

Let’s just think about those Numbers for a minute and the impact it has on our environment
The photographer that took this photo in a landfill in Spain, removed the plastic bag from the bird, but it makes you think about al those animals wounded or killed by plastics dumped around the world every day

This next photo is taken of a surfer off the coast of Java who not only has to watch the waves but watch for all the plastic and other litter in the water.

The middle photo of these three caught my eye in the next photo, Seahorses red the oceans current using Seagrass or other natural debris gripped in their tail which acts kind of like a sail, but here it is using a discarded Cotton bud

And this shot showing what is a common store in many places there’s days with so much bright and colorful plastic that soften get used a few times then get dumped

I try and not to use single use plastics at all such as shopping bags etc, but they see to give them out everywhere, but seeing this display I am now going to make a more conscious effort to be more environmentally friendly when shopping or just going about my every day life.
Case in point is the next shot of one of the rubbish bins i passed at lunchtime, look at all the plastic in there

What can we all do to reduce the amount of waste plastic and other that i harming our environment
I would love to hear your ideas

It would be nice to pass some real laws to help with the issues and not the fake ones my state is passing. Oh, you can't get a straw at a sit-down restaurant in the middle of the city but you can still get them at the snack bar on the bear with a styrofoam cup. It is so crazy. We banned one-time use plastic bags at grocery stores, but not at the 99cent store or any of the million other retail spots. So, now the food costs a bit more to cover the cost of the multiuse yet still plastic bags we have to buy for a dime. Mind you they tax us for that dime also in the law. For that tax money why not just give us all a few cloth bags. Really if the world would start using glass again we could fix this pretty fast but it is hard to figure out how. Stuff in glass just cost more. The sad fact is most people are poor or poorish. Also, we are all so busy that we don't have time to do stuff the right way so we get single use this and single-use that. I wish I had better answers but I don't
Yes slapdash laws do not achieve anything sadly, I know carry some made from recycled bags in my car that I use for grocery shopping, and try to avoid taking plastic bags where i can but some shops insist on giving them to you so you walk the street advertising there store in a bag that is just destined for the trash
Yes your right plastic is mass produced and cheap and prices reflect in what people can afford to buy, and yes convenience also plays a big part, when I go on a long walk and need a drink I will but a bottle of water, often yes it can be recycled and II take my empties till I pass a set of bins which includes a recycling which there are a lot in-the city luckily.
Our office building had banned single use plastics in all the cafeterias, which is a good think, they have water in tin cans and cardboard boxes, but I ust admit i have never bough the ate rain cardboard Carton’s yet myself I am sure it tastes the same just seems odd to me, so I am as guilty s anyone but trying to do my little bit to help

When I look at the photo with the surfer, I understand that the surfer is partly to blame for the problem. But when I look at innocent animals, my heart is breaking apart.
I get your point about the surfer, but the photos of animals and waste does tear at my heart as well, its time for a big change to be made before it is too late
Yes, we are approaching the red line :(
I think were either on the line or close to passing it myself
It’s a sad reality that this is happening with our environment. I guess we should really discipline ourselves and try our best to reduce the use of plastic or better yet stop using it. Our city started using brown bags and recyclable bags whenever we buy items. Thank you for sharing this with us and have a great day!

Yes it is very sad and great to hear if initiatives like that one of the local supermarkets did a trail of not using plastic bags but then stopped it I hope they bring that back
I now have recycled and reusable shopping bags I use fir my groceries
I saw an article the other day where they were using beach plastic to make shoes. It was really interesting and an awesome way to make a small dent in a huge issue.
I think I saw the same article or a similar one I think its a great idea and we need ore initiatives like that

It really is heartbreaking to see how we've used single-use plastic to destroy habitats and the lives of animals without much of a thought. I know there are some great initiatives trying to sort out the after effects but the production hasn't stopped, even the so cold biodegrable plastic isn't all that great eiteher
Our organization just banned all single use plastics in the cafeterias and shops in the building recently and I am trying to do my part
Unfortunately it seems not only has production not stopped it has increased
