#needleworkmonday :: My entry in commemmorating #NeedleWorkMonday's 2 Year Anniversary!
Happy, wonderful #NeedleWorkMonday everyone!!
Today, I present to you the result 😊:
It started with the idea of sewing the #NeedleWorkMonday logo and I decided on cross stitch which felt more manageable for me. I followed the logo pattern and transferred it to my spreadsheet and added an "I" and a 💓 (you will notice that the pattern changed in the end 😁):
I had a dark blue cross stitch fabric Aida cloth and I wanted to highlight the words in sparkly silver thread and the only one I had was my crochet yarn which I decided to give it a try:
Once I was all set, I started working on the cross stitch piece starting from the bottom:
Using the sparkly silver yarn was quite a challenge because the yarn is much thicker and it gets a bit messy going through the holes.
Then, I continued with the heart and I decided to change the "I" to the spool of thread instead which in a way, looked like an "I"!
Next, it was time to add the needle:
And the worked piece (I added a strand of thread into the needle):
The next thing was to decide what to do with the piece. I looked around and there it was, staring at my face:
I would add the cross stitch piece as a pocket to my pocketless tote bag!
I went ahead to cut out the cross stitch that I have worked on:
But before I could add it to the tote bag, I wanted to hide all the messy pattern thread first by sewing a back piece to the cross stitch.
I cut out a piece of fabric, similar to the tote bag and folded the edges to be hidden as I sew it onto the cross stitch piece:
Next, I carefully sewed the pocket onto the bag. It took quite an effort to maneuver the sewing because the tote bag was ready made. We need to make sure that we do not accidentally sew the bag shut:
And it works! But the pocket was a little narrower than I hoped which meant that the sides could not reach the tote bag's handle:
Here is the view of the inside:

My Actifit Today : July 29 2019
The handyman came over today and was drilling holes on the walls. I busied myself dusting, sweeping and mopping, following the handyman, going around the house.
Wow you are brilliant! I LOVE IT! You did such an amazing job wow! The lettering looks so neat and crisp and I love how you added thread to the needle! So clever to make it a functional pocket for your bag! Whooo Hooo you rock! Now I want to add to a bag! 😄😍😜
Congrats on a job well done my friend ~ 😘 Keep on inspiring!
Thanks for participating in the contest! ❤️
Yes! The thread in the needle was a great add on.
Hehe thank you @crosheille! I really like it on the tote bag😍! And the colours were coincidentally matching! Yay!

A minute ago I commented on @shanibeer’s entry (also embroidery) and now while seeing yours, I will sit down quietly in a dark corner of our apartment.... a very dark corner... very: How can you be so precise, artful and practical all at once!!???? I so admire this. Not only is your project so cute (I love the yarn spindle) it is executed flawlessly and you managed to give it a real purpose.
Your decision to use the crochet yarn was so clever, it has a good contrast to the dark background and so the letters are perfectly visible (and sparkle :-D). I would have never guessed that this could work, that you could thread it through the fabric.
I am so happy we all met in this wonderful community and thank you for your work you invest into this community to let it to grow and prosper ❤️
Thank you @neumannsalva!! 😘 that is the best part about cross stitch, you can be precise because the entire fabric is filled with holes that allows you to work the pattern in x x x. I am sure you can do it too!! It is different from embroidery.
I was surprised with the crochet yarn effect too but I have to admit that it wasn’t easy to cross stitch with it. I hope you can give cross stitch a try. It is really simple to do because holes and patterns are easy to work on and follow
