Exploring an Old City and Wall
Location: Diyarbakır, TURKEY
Distance: 15 km (walking and cycling)
Gothic Mosque
We arrived at our first attraction which was the Ulu Cami mosque. It was busy with a popular square in front. Locals drinking tea and nibbling on the sunflower seeds.
Middle East Bazaar
Next stop was a bazaar with an upstairs cafe. The scene was just like in the movies: noisy, bustling, teacups clinking and shade from the white sheets.
Tower on all four
Nearby was a church with a special tower. When we arrived was a tour group standing nearby so we thought to sneak in for a listen. Unfortunately they were local Turkish tourists so we couldn't understand! The tower was special because it is standing on only four columns. Pretty extraordinary engineering for the time it was built.
Old Wall
This city is famous for it's rich history. Another important attraction is the city wall. It is known to be the second longest wall, only after the Chinese one! Here you can find small tea shops with small table and seats.
