What I've Been Doing Last Week

Last week was a lot about mining and crypto currencies and specifically about Zcash (ZEC) as it was all over the place in the crypto currency world thanks to the huge initial interest and a lot of hype before it even launched. When it has finally launched the crazy prices due to the slow start and scarcity of the coins really pushed the craze even further. So now everyone is apparently mining Zcash or is missing to make some good profit from it, even regular people that are not into mining but have a decent specs computer might be able to profit. If you are such you might want to check this post - How to Easily Mine With Your Computer and Get More Steem, A Guide for People Not Into Crypto Currencies, as it can help you increase a bit your Steem Power on Steemit without much efforts.

As a side effect of the huge interest in Zcash and a lot of people moving their mining rigs to mine the new coin there were some significant changes in the hashrate of other crypto currencies. The network hashrate of Ethereum for example almost dropped in half, other crypto coins such as LBRY and SIA that had big networks partly thanks to the availability of Claymore's Dual Miner (mining ETH + LBRY/DCR/SIA at the same time) also dropped significantly in terms of hashrate. What is more important is that the hardware using private GPU miners for mining Steem has also been moved to mine ZEC apparently and as a result Steem Mining is Easy Again Thanks to the Zcash (ZEC) Craze. It is however entirely different thing if mining Steem was more profitable than mining Zcash and trading the mined coins for Steem tokens.

Last week the Russian only alternative of Steemit has opened their crowdsale of tokens, more details are available in my post here: https://steemit.com/golos/@cryptos/the-golos-token-crowdsale-has-started-today-and-will-run-for-the-next-30-days. I have even purchased some Golos tokens from the crowdsale in order to support the new Golos community and the project, and if you are interested you might do that as well. The Golos community is mostly focused on Russian language content, though you might still post in English or another language as well. Have in mind though that Golos is not yet paying rewards for posts, so you can only post to establish some reputation there at this point in time.

I finally did a review of the new 5MP USB Microscope With 300x Magnification For Your Computer that I actually got using some Steem Dollars that I have earned here on Steemit. This was actually my first purchase with money that I actually got from being a part of the Steemit community and from my posts, so it was completely normal to post the review of the device on Steemit as well. In that review I have used a $100 USD bill as a test specimen to provide some sample closeup images, then a bit later on I also did look at a 100 Euro Bill With 300x Magnification using that same USB microscope and posted the photos.

Work on my pet projects @robotev and @crowdfundedwhale is progressing nicely and they are developing. I'm pretty happy with the good start and continuing support from users that the @crowdfundedwhale is getting and how things are slowly moving to make the project better. I have shared some more details and thoughts about these two projects here - Of Whales, Good Curators and People's Expectations....

Cool update, and, yes, last week was all about ZCash. At the ridiculously low supply released thus far, it's tough to draw any conclusions other than there's demand for privacy in money. There are much less richly valued alternatives people should be aware of: Monero, Dash, Boolberry, and ZCoin, etc.
