Hello steemians, goodday. I hope we all are doing good. I'm really enjoying this platform considering how much I have learnt since my sign up, I'll do my best to remain active here. Today I have decided to write and post my achievement 3. Please do well to read it.

Meaning Of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is presenting someone else’s work or ideas as your own, with or without their consent, by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgement. All published and unpublished material, whether in manuscript, printed or electronic form, is covered under this definition.
source

The above definition was given by Oxford students, therefore I'ld explain plagiarism with my own knowledge; Plagiarism can be explained as a situation whereby, a person goes on to present the same work which was done by someone else as his/her own without giving any proper credits or remark to the original authoror publisher. This is done with the intent of getting rewarded without any display of hardwork, there are lots of things which could be plagiarized, ranging from a book, a research work, a term paper, work of arts etc.

Types Of Plagiarism

There different forms of plagiarism, I have listed and explained below;
Self plagiarism:
In this case an author or a regular person, who has done a work in the past which is similar to a recent project will use his previous work for the new one.
Direct plagiarism:
This is one of the major form of plagiarism in the world, it is a case where someone goes on to produce an exact/fake copy of the original authors exact work and presents or publishes it as his/her own.
Global plagiarism:
This can be identified to be a situation where a person steals an original work of an author, and presents it before or alongside the author with serious claims that he/she (the plagiarist) is the original owner of that work.
Mosaic plagiarism:
Mosaic plagiarism differs a little from the rest because, unlike others it involves copying from multiple sources or sites in other to form a piece of work. This is like collecting data from different sources and assembling them as one without giving credits to those different sources.
Accidental plagiarism:
Accidental plagiarism is a case of plagiarism where a person does not intentionally copy the work of an author, however coincidentally presents the same work which is similar to that of the author without knowing it.

Negative Effects Of Plagiarism

  1. A person who constantly engage in plagiarism may not last long in an institute or place of work. Hence his/her publications are spotted to be plagiarized, he may be sacked or expelled from his/her place of work or school. And while he/she is stepping down the reputation previously earned may step down as well.
  2. In some cases or institutes, plagiarism is a huge offence and when a person is identified to be a plagiarist, the original author of the work may press charges against the plagiarist which may go with a fine to be paid and sometimes this does not end well for the plagiarist.
  3. If a person is discovered to be a plagiarist, he/she maybe sidelined on his work place, or muted in a community. In cases where it is a student he/she maybe either suspended, expelled or may face isolation from his pears.
  4. Not much people would trust a plagiarist considering that he/she steals people's work and presents it as his/her own. The plagiarist may face serious trust issues wit others.

Ways To Avoid Plagiarism

  1. Make sure that, whenever you copy from a site during research give credits to that site. In other words properly source contents lifted from a site.
  2. It is adviced that a person who wishes to use someonea original work, informs the owner before doing so in order to get permission from the author. Also reference and give credits to the original author afterwards.
  3. Just as earlier explained what accidental plagiarism is, it is advised that a person uses a plagiarism checker to properly scan his/her work in order to avoid accidental plagiarism or plagiarism of any kind.

Conclusion

All over the world plagiarism is unaccepted and in some places it is a serious crime. Plagiarism kills the original aim of a program/project, it is like a warm which eats slowly but is gradually going deep. I urge anyone who reads this, to totally abstain from plagiarism in other to avoid facing the negative effects of plagiarism. Being unique pays.

When mentioning the types of plagiarism, you must do so in your own words.
You have copied the same text from the internet, and precisely this is plagiarism.
