The Scary LIfe of a Moderator
What's going on behind the screens? What does the life of a moderator look like? I can't speak for all moderators but I can speak for me and perhaps even my colleagues. Man, were we busy during the first week, and the next one and... Well, if you check who moderates most of us you have the answer.
It's great to start a new community! I swear it is, especially if there's not too much work to do or better... if you delegate the work and say Sorry, I'm busy make sure you moderated within 5 hours. Sleepless nights is what I had. Why? Because to me, this rule should be taken seriously but soon it turns out I am one of those idiots working day and night, covering others, the one who will say: This is not okay, while the top does the opposite and honestly I have a very hard time living with that.
But hey, we, knack4buzz, the community for entertainment managed to be the chosen one... we have SEC hurray,! We are sooo happy with all the extra work we didn't know about although we communicated daily for hours. Enough hours to drive one crazy, but craziness is entertaining!
We nearly survived the SEC contests and what me struck most was how the engagement, contests, and quality of content dropped. It, drastically dropped from the moment SEC started. Is SEC the ghost in the closet, the one hiding underneath the bed? Is there something scary going on? It feels like it since my life in paranormal. It looked like a hit but commitment?
The thing that will kill me, or kill us moderators?
It's being abused, abandoned, and backstabbed by those who should be grateful for our hard work, they should be an example. Am I wrong or wrong?
So far so good. We are still there and yes we moderate since we promised to do so but meanwhile, it didn't only become silent in the admin/mod group chat but in the community as well. Somewhere is a monster, or a killer busy, on its way to ... what exactly?
I heard stories about monsters, ghosts, thieves...
What happened? Did anything change or are we the three idiots instead of the three musketeers? Perhaps we are, but we keep the moderating going on just like the engagement. Stupid? Perhaps but to us is a promise a promise so we sacrifice our night to read, advice although no longer to everyone. Why not? Because we learned most do not care and are even hostile if you give a tip on how to improve. No answer, "Next time I will" or asking the help of the administrators so they change the rules of the contests... it all happens and for sure this isn't the only place where the level goes down, quality is gone within a few weeks just because of?
"Don't get yourself killed..." a very wise advice. Why should I? Would you take a bullet for me? I doubt it.
Is it worth it, my son asked, will it freak you out? Why not leave and do what you like most?
Good question and I admit this isn't what I want, this isn't my community (I said that more than once trust me) and yes, I even took my delegated SP back because I better upvote with it and... I have other plans.
As you can see the number of contests dropped from (top moment) 9 per week to two, the SEC contest included (sec is not "Sekt" the German word for fake champagne, SEC is good for something else)

Hi Dear ! I completely understand your sentiments, as what you've expressed is genuine and you've acted upon your convictions. I had a hunch that it would unfold in this manner.
In my opinion, you should consider sharing your thoughts in Suggestions Club @pennsif's Steem Debate, as a writer, you have the freedom to express your ideas and perspectives.
You know what I think? That this post will not even be read.. Too many words or letters. It saddens me how this develops and I hope it's a wakeup call but since I said, adviced, prayed, begged, asked day after day, week after week (it feels like years) all I can do now is my day and a bit in the weekend.
In the past weeks I learned a lot, I've been scolded, threatened, (nothing to blackmail with), I heard more excuses than I thought there could be, I've been lied to but it's fine.

I hope entertainment and fun can be saved but will never understand why start something if you are not able or willing to invest.
I'll have a look later or tomorrow about the debate.

You are under the wrong impression if you think this post won't be read. People will read it, but some will choose to ignore it, as if they hadn't read it at all.
I have already been through all this in the past, so decided will do things my way.
Just remember this: invest your efforts where they are appreciated. Offer advice only when asked, otherwise, remain silent and observe from the sidelines.
I have no intention to offer advice any longer which I did because it was adviced to me. Observing from the sideline is not my intention but if I see something I will mention it one way or the other if it makes me wonder or question.
Let's post some happiness and entertainment since I've been told you are still aroumd because of your closeness on whatsapp (so halpy I don't use it).

My children and friends will have a good laugh. It's years ago I used WhatsApp, no way. Me and my family and friends use Signal and that's it. I abandoned all social media years ago but now again I'm using X to promote a platform that's hard to promote (mainly to test the hashtags and the only cool thing so far is I saw 2 great t-shirts worth sharing with the family - we've got a group named: idiots... (says enough what we share there).
I seem to be around everywhere and know everyone (see my SC01 post) and the threats still continue, begging too but I'm not vulnerable or flattered by such behaviour and pity is no reason for an upvote if laziness and lack of commitment is the trend. Besides even if I knew sc01 or 02 an orca or I don't who else they want me introducing them to, I would not recommend someone just because I know him/her or think s/he's good. It's not my task. If I think it's good I will leave a comment and upvote myself. If I think I should support someone I will upvote or add him/her to my list. If everyone would do that this place would be a better one and we all would see the need to upvote.
There are too many votes unused, imagine they are all used (it does take time though to find the right posts, also too much time).
Yes, I took part in the debate but I think you figured that out by now, It took me at least 2 hours to write that on my phone and the comment section is awfully small, 3 lines, and no way longer comments can be seen. Frequently I can't scroll back so my guess is engaging is no longer required otherwise the comment section would be big. A bit of white space is more inviting to fill than a small tiny thing on the phone. Here's the reason why it's easier to copy-paste text.
I like how silent it is. Silence before the storm? I doubt it. It's wiser to say nothing than saying something that makes the mass wake up and cause unwanted attention.
It's 2 pm by now... I did nothing which isn't much so I'm going to check a few more notifications, drink my tea, and am off (writing of course commenting isn't writing although it's time-consuming).

Better stop the commenting. Only do so after you wrote. With me it messes up with my brain and it takes away the great ideas I had.
Doing nothing triggers the brain, laying down helps me, to some taking a shower. You can also paint it might helo, or watch pictures or read the topics of the SEC contests for a brilliant idea. Or write a comment and post it.

What should I say. I am feeling the same abandoned, no follow of rules and no appreciation of the work. I said to you to only do moderation of your day which is your responsibility and must not burden yourself. Are you hired on Steemit? Are you getting paid for doing work of others? Or anyone appreciate you of your hardwork you did during moderation on whole week?
World is just like this we need to not over deliver if it is not worthy. Life is all about peace not only of body but specially of mind. However, I hope things will change and right direction will be followed soon. Stay Blessed :)

...sleepless nights...I perfectly understand, dear friend. Tons of hours per day to dedicate...by my side, I was compelled to say good-bye, even sadly, to the contest of the Venezolanos community (so I imagine how harder is for a moderator than for an user). I can't do so much any more, especially now I began to attend capoeira lessons (it's a Latin sport, a sort of Western martial sport that looks like a dance). I must listen to my doctor, if I don't want to need a wheel chair (or in any way to get a physical disability) before my fifties. My nutritionist agreed I need to practise a sport like this (I'm familiar, in any way, as until 18 years ago I was practising capoeira), energy consuming, to strengthen bones (especially the spine). But this sport involves events each bimester, so I'll have less and less time to stay in front of a screen...
I heard of Capoeira 😁 do it but above all enjoy it. It gives energy and a life behind the screen is an option that you can have if you are flat on your back and there's nothing else to do.
You are talented in many ways and as long as there is life outside enjoy that.
If you write 3 or 4 short posts it's enough. You can freewrite about your adventures but I believe yiu need a 'detox' from the screen first.

My life as a moderator doesn't stop but will be in a different way.

What I have in the spine is osteopenia caused by a metabolic disease (this latter, surely due to my IBS, that until last year had cause unexplainable weightloss). Practicing a sport like capoeira should revert osteopenia, at least it's what my doctors hope...
Focus on your health, your body, positive thoughts. A strong mind can be the healing factor just like this type of body conyrol. Above all I wish you fun. You worked long enough and sitting behind that computer for that many hours is bad for your spine! (with me my neck as well laying down is better).
