Mount Jefferson Sunset August 20, 2017 the day before...

Sunset and golden skies over Mount Jefferson.

View of sunset from our campsite the night before the total solar eclipse last year in Madras, Oregon. This is the twilight of a spectacular sunset. See my previous post of the full colors this wonderful evening.

If you look closely you can see the campground. A local farmer converted a center pivot irrigation field into a 100+ site campground. It was super well done. He grew grass and then mowed it close which helped with the dust. There were lots of well maintained porta-potties, a shuttle into town, and a cowboy breakfast was cooked every morning. Being a little ways out of town turned out very nice.

Mount Jefferson is significant because it was one of the first places to witness the eclipse in the lower continental United States. The eclipse was basically a shadow that moved across the country from Oregon to South Carolina. The shadow darkened Mount Jefferson completely minutes before we started to see the eclipse overhead.

Right place, right time for sure.

Must have been awesome in so many ways.

It was really awesome. Even worth the disastrous traffic jam all the way back to California haha

I heard about the traffic jams. Guess they weren't lying!
Lucky you. Wisconsin had a poor view.
