How Would Your Life Change If Steem Really Went Global? Let's Discuss.

in #steem5 years ago (edited)

If Steem truly is one of the chosen cryptos to find itself enjoying global adoption in a few years, could we even possibly conceive how our lives would be different at this point?

  • Would you be prepared?

  • Would you know what to do or how to leverage your first-mover advantage?

  • Would I know what the F to do?

To me, global Bitcoin adoption would mean financial freedom, independence, convenience and privacy. Ethereum would ideally be a passive income stream via staking or leasing, as well as a store of wealth and means of payment. Other tokens are literally lottery tickets to cash out if and when their prices skyrocket. Of course, this sentiment may change over time, especially if some I've picked really get legs in the global economy or with society. I'm treating most like penny stocks though.

I'm not holding my breath, but I think I'm set up well if blockchain generally succeeds to become a dominant force in our global GDP...

So what about Steem?

With Steem, I tend to gravitate toward thinking I'd mainly use it as a way to help others in a philanthropic sense. As long as the rewards pool and stake allocation is around, I envision helping family, friends, and underprivileged people obtain cryptocurrency if they slept on it before or couldn't afford it. I'd also support pro-environment initiatives, musicians, and things that align with my values. I might also use Steem as a platform to resell, but that'd likely be way out in the future... if the chain is still here and if I even need to worry about income then. I'm currently not of the mindset that Steem would be my bread and butter in the future, but maybe it can be. The potential of that alone is nice to daydream about, especially if I invested.

"Oh, will you just shut up with the positive karma stuff for once?!"

Steem Continued:

For some reason, Steem means human social and financial interaction, not business, nor hardcore store of value. That's my view, but I understand that others are here for a vast variety of reasons.

I think the ability to send Steem to any user or Steem wallet holder quickly for free is amazing. If things pan out, there are so many ways to leverage that in the future I'm looking forward to. Furthermore, the ability of a crowd of Steemians to crowdfund for certain causes/people is a unique feature I don't find available via other chains. Reputable Steemians with stake could hold a lot of influence and offer the platforms they've built as a stepping stone for others for a slew of benefits.

That's some pretty powerful potential I'd look forward to being a part of.

While the EIP implementation has sparked manual curation and hopefully less self-voting, I'm turning my outlook upward for the first time in quite a while. Heck, I even got several nice votes last night from the unlikeliest of sources for the first time for strong rewards, so I'm cautiously optimistic.

However, I'm not naive that a rewards ratio is going to change everyones' stripes, but the incentives to behave better to each other and not feel like it's an expense to vote are positive influences. This is a win so far as we put our economics in a better long-term position with equitable mutually beneficial interaction.

Either way, change is good. It was sorely needed as Steem was struggling and users were not acting in the best interest of the community.

Damn it...

Share Your Thoughts:

This post is mainly to see what other people are thinking here.

Forget price predictions because nobody knows.

How do you envision your involvement and future relationship with the Steem blockchain in 2, 5, or 10 years?

Share ideas to help each other expand our awareness of our potential as a whole. Perhaps someone will share a new concept that could help us refocus on the bigger picture or future goals a bit. I'd prefer to think forward instead of too much about the inevitable day-to-day hiccups and drama a new social media blockchain often distracts us with.

These could also be good marketing points... Just sayin'.

@steemmatt

P.S. I want to play online Texas Holdem on the Steem blockchain using Steem.

Sort:

well what I have been thinking about and btw I'm doing it now is to rent out half of my power for a passive income and the other half goes to my contribution to the space and growing the Steem community. <3

So you wouldn't build a Steem palace in Iran we could visit? C'monnnn!!

Hahaha! I don’t know if I wanna stay here but of course you are welcome anytime brother! Just let me know 🙂

steem to the moon, well hopefully. I haven't seen any positive effects from the hardfork on the price

If Steem goes to the moon, it better have good wifi up there.

Wow... game changing. Thanks again!

These are good questions.
I never think too much about global adoption. I just can’t see that happening at all yet - I think we’re a way off. But I suppose the core tech repackaged and used behind the scenes by a big brand or something is more likely. I see that as a possibility for it to be huge fairly soon.

I agree with the penny stock mentality. This place is genuinely a great community and it’s exciting to be a part of the time it’s being built and explored. The humanitarian and personal aspect is very powerful.

There is still a part of all this that is about the investment.
It’s a small lottery gamble, Luke you say, and if the price were to rocket it could be life changing money if I traded some for ‘profit’. But I’m not sure how I would act on it if the price went to $1 in the next month.

I don't think of global adoption much yet either, but was in the mood last night. I think that Bitcoin has to lead the way first, and once people realize crypto might be a valid part of society, they'll look at how other chains and applications can integrate them into it via stuff like e-commerce, social media, gaming, etc.. I don't know what I'm talking about though!

I'll come back to read in full a bit later.. But, at first glance I would also try to utilise steem for philanthropy and fun..

Good to see you posting thought provoking content.. I've changed my focus here post HF.. I'm a bit less of an ass if at all. I'm sure some satire will come and it's a funny thought realising if steem takes off nobody will really care about the cast of characters that built the platform... Especially with the likelihood that communities and smt will really obfuscate the inner workings of the chain which will be great in some ways. Ignorance isn't exactly bliss on steem, for now survival is dependent on knowing names, terms, history, etc.

OK haircut time I woke up 38 today and people are requesting my presence to celebrate my solar return.. What's the verdict on Bangkok for you?

Definitely hold em steem style!

Happy Happy birthday. Satire is necessary when maneuvering through a landmine of things that can easily trigger frustration. Humor is a great way to keep on Steeming when others would call you crazy. If people don't appreciate it, it's on them, as long as it's not overly negative.

If steem went mainstream, I would do what I outlined in my best post, ever.

Some things have changed since then and my English has improved, too, but the main idea is still valid.

PS:
I was working on a simple game wallet for steem, which could support games like Poker.
My concept seemed simple, but it would be too many things I would have to learn at once, to get it all done.

Read your old post. Great vision. Sounds like you're mentally prepared while others wouldn't have a clue.

I'd love to see game wallets for Steem. I just hope that the threat of potential regulations doesn't stop people from developing things that could be so much fun and beneficial for driving traffic. In other words, I just wanna play online poker for $ again!!!

waiting for this game, and being able to bet on it :)

Is that an app running on Ethereum??

naw its an old atari game that i used to play. loved it.hoping someone brings it to blockcahin
