The Old Dog: Places his Traitorous Order! My Review of Buying Glasses Online!

in #life8 years ago (edited)

Am I really a traitor? I guess not but I have felt a few twinges of guilt for ordering my eye glasses online instead of supporting one of my local businesses.

In a previous post I showed you what happened to my last pair of over priced prescription eye glasses and how a friend told me how I could order them on line and pay 1/10th of the price!

Let's See How Easy It is to Order Glasses Online

Disclaimer: I do not endorse, support or profit from the site that I used which is goggles4u.com. They claim to have over 2,000 pairs of frames to choose from.

Here Are The Steps That I Took

1.) Once on the site you can choose from men's frames, women's frames or children's frames. Since I'm a man (although not half the man I used to be) I chose men's

2.) Once there I was confronted with hundreds of pairs of frames which can be filtered according to price, material  frame type, size, frame style, frame shape and color!

There were almost too many to choose from but I selected the ones that interested me the most and "tried them on"!

3.) Once you click on a pair that interests you, you can see various views of it, examine other colors, read up on its specs and look at reviews. (see opening photo)

4.) I picked out 12 that I "thought" I liked and proceeded to "try them on"!

5.) To try them on you take a picture of yourself, upload it and start the fashion show!

I liked "trying the glasses on" a lot more here than at the store! Ya I know..I should have smiled! Does your personality really change based on the glasses that you wear? Perhaps people's first impressions of you change!

6.) From these 12 models I decided to buy 3 pairs and so I headed to the next step of selecting the lenses. First you have to put in all of the details for your prescription.

At this stage I input the prescription details that I received from the optomatrist.

7.) The next step is to input the info for the type of lenses that you want. The basic ones are "free" but then of course there are tinted, scratch resistant, bifocal, progressive etc.. etc... you get the picture! I chose option 3 for $22.95

Here you can choose the different lenses and by clicking on the question mark you can read all of the pertinent details.

8.) I repeated the same procedure and bought 3 pairs. One pair of regular glasses for distance, one pair of sun glasses for distance and one pair of bifocals. I don't need reading glasses but I have to take off the distance glasses to read so I decided to give the bifocals a try.

9.) It was now time to go to the check-out and pay. Luckily for me I had money in my paypal account which was a re-imbursement from an airline for a delayed flight! Cool!

Here you can see my order for three pairs of glasses for a total of $180.69 including express shipping!

Advantages And Disadvantages of Buying my Glasses Online

Advantages: speed, convenience and price!

Disadvantages: I didn't "really" get to try them on and there's a lot to be said for holding and wearing the glasses before buying them! I'm also not sure if I'll get whacked for any additional shipping charges or taxes. Stay Tuned!

In A Future Post I'll Review My Purchase Once The Glasses Arrive

I hope that you enjoyed this online purchase review!

Until next time,

Really, you could have cracked a smile in your "trying on" picture! I hear that smiling doesn't hurt that much unless you haven't done it for a long time. (I am speaking from theory rather than experience lol )

If I had a do over I would have smiled!

:D , trying to keep serious while enjoying the "fashion show" is much harder when he's serious :D

He's a old dog , but you can see it's just a cover, the fun leaks from the cracks
You can smell he had more fun than it shows in the picture :D

And its better to try out glasses without smiling :D you will be smiling at the sun if you didn't wear them :D

@kus-knee I think you went a bit overboard with the frames , but at least you will have lots of backups ;D,
I'm not one to wear glasses so I can't understand it , but probably one day I will need my own pair.
Hopefully not anytime soon.

I tend to think that if you use "cheats" you loose the experience , so if you use glasses your eyes won't recover , but would rather give up and continue to degrade. I used to do active exercises for the eyes a few years back, when I caught myself having less of the flawless vision i used to enjoy as a kid.

Afterwards I found how important the eyes were and how connected they are to the whole body. Time went by and I stopped with the routine , but I have to say, feasting on the daily sunlight in the morning is much more of a beneficial exercise.

As they might say in the Chamber, "the ayes have it" ... my first time around I paid over $300 for some designer label - can now buy readers for $2.50!
Great fun. Good post
Resteemed - just for the spectacle

yeah I bought some for 3$ in Chinese chop and changed the lents to my prescription!

Good stuff!

Great comment, thanks!

Sometimes the material they are made of is really cheap so can't actually trust what you see but however you can select the design that suits you the best!

Let's see what arrives. In the meantime I got 3 pairs for 1/3 the price of one pair where I live.

I reeeaaally look forward to hearing how this turns out, Old Dog! You said in a previous post that they were coming from India, right? What was shipping cost and how long is it supposed to take?

Also, just to try and give you a morsel of relief; "Local" businesses that are selling glasses, probably aren't making them. Their supplies are probably coming from the same people that you ordered from, and then being sold at their prices...So buy local when things are handmade, but buy mass produced things wherever they are the best bang for your buck.
If this website treats you good, I may be using them in the near future!

Thanks for the comment. It doesn't say anywhere on the site where they come from. My buddy and my brother-in law (who are both happy customers) said that they arrived from India. I paid $25 for express shipping and they claim 7-10 days. We'll see how that turns out. There was no option for normal shipping!

Perfect! I will be watching for you review post. :)

Great information. I need to try this!

Thanks for coming. I'll let you know how it works out.

I have always worn glasses and that looks like quite the procedure ! But as long as you have your current perscription why not ! Wow you saved so much money ! My last pair of glasses cost me over 400.00 dollars ! But they do change to a darker tint in the sunlight , then back to normal inside . And their lightweight . Its been 4 years , so im due for an exam anytime i guess ! I would definately order on line if I could even save half off ! I mean they get all your measurements and stuff so it should be good ! Let us know how you make out ! Steem on and good luck ! 😊👍

Yes, I finally got a new prescription after MANY years! We'll see how it all plays out.

This is a very interesting post. The website seems really easy to use, and also seems to be quite advanced. Thanks for sharing

Yes easy and even a little fun but the proof will be in the pudding!

@kus-knee I just came here to for the post - thanks for the bone offer but I got 50 SP richer from @anotherjoe so I'll pass this time.
But I have to comment cause wow the "trying on feature" - that's cool. Okay now you do resemble @onceuponatime here. He's right - why not a smile?

I hope your glasses turn out great!

Yes, my one regret, not smiling! When I was a teenager it was better to look tough! :)

@kus-knee hahaha okay - so you were trying to look tough?
I guess that pic the pied-piper gave you did it huh?

Following you since I saw @anotherjoe's post in you and enjoyed his review on his "trip" on the Steemit mount and how he created the Trail and all :). Gratz on the reward :)
