Actifit And The Proposed Posting Missed Post Feature

Humans are driven by the motivation to achieve success and when that is achieved there is this realization that there is more to be achieved and so we keep going and going until our body can no longer take it or when life leaves us. If there is no drive, it means we will have low motivation to achieve anything. What am I really driving at? And why am I even saying stuff that seems not to make sense? Please be patient with me as we delve into the matter at hand.

A lot of us are driven to achieve our count on actifit because it is time bound, by 12 midnight you’re supposed to post your daily report whatever it may be. Some of us have missed it sometimes and I can tell you it is very painful. I remember posting once and didn’t look at the message that came up on the screen of my phone thinking it was the usual successful submission message only to discover the next day it didn’t deliver, I headed off to the discord channel to complain only to be told that the day had gone but that I could post today’s own at the end of the day. It was a bitter experience, all my effort for a day gone like that.

With that experience in mind I developed a strategy which was to make sure I made my post before any small naps at night because you can easily drift over the 12 midnight mark. Lol. Sometimes I post as early as 5pm if I knew I was going out and not coming back on time. Sometimes I post something, anything just to get my report in then when I have the strength I edit it later. I read loads of @actifit reports daily and I see loads of us are doing the same thing. We are adjusting to the current reality of what is expected of us as regards our @actifit report. This is a driver that is pushing us to be inventive in the way we deliver our reports so that we meet our target of getting it in before 12 midnight.

I read @alexvanaken post yesterday night where he talked about missing 2 post in a row, that truly hurts, but what catch my attention in his post was when he mentioned that @mcfarhat and his team are developing a feature that will allow people that accidentally missed posting their report to post it after the 12 midnight deadline, you can read the post below:

https://steemit.com/actifit/@alexvanaken/when-you-miss-the-actifit-midnight-deadline-2-days-in-a-row-some-good-news-also

I honestly don’t know the modality of how the new feature is going to work but the first question that came to mind was “How would the feature know who accidentally missed submitting their report and those who deliberately or missed it because we know there is a way out?”

Please hear me out, I am not kicking against the idea or the new feature if it is going to make the app great but I am just wondering, will it kill our drive? Will it dampen our motivation? When majority start taking the alternative of leaving it for latter, will @actifit report still have that bite, that action we read in members post daily. I don’t know what the answer to all these questions are, I don’t know if I am worried over nothing but what I know for sure is when there is no time limit people start slacking.

I attended my son’s PTA (Parents Teachers Association) meeting a while ago and the principal of the school in her speech was complaining about parents who are fond of bring their kids late for school. School time starts 8am but some parents brought their kids as late as 9am when the first subject has already been done with, a young wife suggested that they should change the start time to 9am because they had a lot of things to do at home before bringing the kids to school. The question I asked at the meeting was this “Are we to change the school start time when nationally, on state levels and local government levels the rule states 8am?” The next question I asked was “What were other parents that brought their kids to school on or before 8am doing differently that you are not doing?” At the end of the day the principal stood her ground and told parents the consequence of not bringing their kids to school on time.

How does this little story relate to us, maybe it’s time we ask what others are doing to get their reports in on time than us changing the rules which I feel is not going to be a motivating factor for loads of people to send in their report as at when due. I saw a lot of US citizens mention the efforts they put in to sending in their tax report on time because they know the consequences of not doing it, imagine if they could do it anytime, would the sense of urgency still be there?

My dear @mcfarhat, you guys are doing a lot of great stuff with @actifit app already and we are grateful for giving us the opportunity to workout, stay fit, make new friends and be happy and healthy. As I mentioned at the beginning, I don’t know how the new feature is designed to help us but please let it not be something that slows the tempo of how things are already moving, strive for conformity to rules to make that sense of competition drive us. Let it not be a thing that makes us slack. That is my 2 cents contribution to the topic, although I doubt if it is worth up to 2 cents. Lol

hey @ketcom,
Thank you for a wonderful post and discussion topic.

We've had the thoughts and discussion about whether to allow yesterday reports since the beginning of Actifit. I recently made the decision to proceed with the change, but to keep the motivation of actifitters, there will be a drop in rewards for people who post the second day.

Meaning this feature will be a fall-back, for those who missed the deadline, or maybe too tired, and the related rewards will be less.I tend to think this would be the way to keep people motivated, while also trying to accommodate those special situations by the community.

Thanks a lot @mcfarhat for honoring me with a reply to my post, it goes to show you care a lot about members. Your strategy is great, it takes care of everybody and I am pretty sure it will not de-motivate people that post on time and it will also make people that posted late not to lose out totally on all their daily effort. Thank you once more for the clarification.

I have missed an actifit post by 1 minute and that was painful. I learned quickly to adapt and get my posts in on time since. I don't think it is a good thing to pander to people that can't be bothered to make the effort. I have sacked people at work because they could not be bothered to turn up on time after warning them what would happen. So maybe if we have a set number of late posts one can post in a month maybe a good way to go.

Hmm . . . I never missed posting a report. I would suggest just to set an alarm clock on the smartphone. This shouldn't be a real problem.

I have missed a few also as I finish work at midnight and often am rushing to get done on time. Having said that, its about being more organised and either pre-preparing the report or putting a brief post to edit later.

I like @j85063's suggestion of a limited number of "late posts" allowed (maybe 1 per month or something)

Thanks for your thoughts, until we see the workings of the new feature one can't really say what is considered.
