Mountain Monday Goes Random

This week I'm still working through the archives, so I will show you several photos taken over the past three or four years. There is no obvious connection between these photos except that I took them all in British Columbia. OK, let's get random!
Southern mainland BC, near the Crowsnest Pass. I took this photo last autumn with my little Olympus EM5 Mk II camera.
The same mountain with a different foreground. The idea was to use leading lines in the composition. What works best - the river or the tracks?
Have I shown you the Coquihalla Summit before? This is in the interior of BC. The highway goes over a high mountain pass here. I think the highway reaches 7,000 ft elevation in places. Not sure of the height of this particular mountain. Last August we traveled this road and we had a break from the forest fire smoke when the road came out above the clouds and we saw the blue sky and the sun, and briefly experienced some clean air.
You don't see a mountain in this shot because I'm standing on it, looking down at the city of Vancouver. The Lion's Gate bridge runs across the bottom of the image. I made this a 15 second shot because I wanted to allow time for the lights of the bridge traffic to fill in as a solid line. I don't think it mattered, really... Photo taken from high up on Cypress Mountain.
Mountains across the strait with a container ship on the horizon and a whale watching boat in the foreground. Speaking of whale watching, these boats are supposed to stay at least a hundred yards from the whales. I'm not really sure they're doing this. Take a look at the next photo...
Ok, you tell me... does that whale watcher on the right look like he's a hundred yards from the Orca Whales? You'll need to click for a full-screen view. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, but there are some mountains or hills in the background.

Your shots are all fantastic as per usual. I like the tracks for a good foreground. Coquihalla Summit looks very deadly. I wonder if people try to climb it.
I used to work for a place in the states that did whale watching. If the whales come to you it is fair game. You just cannot run up on them. Maybe Canada is the same.
Thanks a lot for posting, Sharon. Glad you liked the photos. I imagine you're right about the whales - if they surface right beside the boats, what can you do? The only thing is, those boats have sonar, I'd think they have a pretty good idea where the whales are.
They do, but those whales can appear out of nowhere. And plus the boats are trying to get as close as they can.
We had grays where I was and they would scratch themselves on the hulls sometimes. Very exciting, and the Captain would have no time or ability to get out of the way. They have to cut the engine when this happens.

Thank you @shasta! It was nice being above the forest fire smoke for a short while! This photo was from last May - I was there again in August, that's when we had all the fires. I didn't get many photos in August.

Terrific shots. I absolutely love the composition of the railway tracks with the mountains for a backdrop.
Thank you very much! I had someone who wanted to buy that photo, then they changed their mind when I was unable to remove the sign and sandbags. Pretty funny because there was one on the other side of the tracks as well, and I was disappointed that I hadn't captured both! :-)
Seriously? They were hung up over the sandbags? Sounds like an excuse to get out of the deal to me. People always seem to feel like they need some fault that makes backing out of stuff not really their choice.
Yes, this person - a friend of mine - wanted to buy some cards and asked me to send him a bunch of photos to choose from. After narrowing the choices down to three or four photos, I was asked to produce samples, which I did. I went to a printer and it cost me a little money to have the samples made. This went on and on until I asked why he wouldn't just go to my Fine Art America page, where cards could be ordered online. After that, the order never came through. That's what friends do I guess. This is a wealthy guy who is an art collector.
I’ve rarely had transactions with friends be financially satisfying. Unfortunately, friends, family and even acquaintances seem to feel we should gift them our hard work and those expensive supplies out of some kind of gratitude that they want our art.

yes sir, it looks darn cold! lol. But you guys were driving and there was a forest fire in the area and the pass up there was the only clear air?
Two different times. In May it was just snowy in the mountains. We passed through again in late August when the fires were really burning and that's the time I mentioned when we came out above the smoke. We were travelling east to see the kids, and there was smoke all the way to Lake Superior. That's a long, long way.
wow it seems like that would choke up you car's air filters. Is that common, the fires?
Never mind the filters, I had to drive with a mask on at times. Last year was the worst on record for fires, they were all over the west from Alaska down to California. We had it pretty bad in BC. I hope I never see that again. While Beijing and Mumbai were having air pollution measured at 80 PPM, Vancouver and Victoria hit 320... worst on the planet. There are always forest fires in late summer, but last year was off the charts! It's another sign of climate change. Not enough rain or snow in the winter, summers way too hot.
How has the snowfall been this winter, still behind?
I honestly don't know. We had about a spoonful here last night which is about normal :-) Not sure what's up in the mountains. I tried to google it, but couldn't get a straight answer.
