Trial by Comics Entry - My Best Pages?!?

Wow that was a hard decision to take!

For the Trialbycomics contest of this week, I had to choose my best sequential art. With over 100 pages and countless scenes that I love, it wasn't easy...

My final pick is the following. This scene kickstarts chapter 4 of my comic Shades Of Men. Our trio decides to play in the french metro and improvises a song.

I choose this specific sequence because I found it technically interesting, including a crowd scene and original panel layout. Also I think the story is refreshing and has some kind of resolution. The interaction between characters flows naturally.

And by the way! The song in this sequence is an original one I wrote on this occasion. Nobody performed it ever! I'm not even sure of chords you see. If you feel inspired. Please don't hesitate to come up with your own arrangements and play it in real life...

Now back to the contest... The other sequences I could have chosen would have been:

The Introduction

Untitled 3.png

The introduction of David to the wild life of homeless people. A very interesting sequence story wise. Technically it is all inked on paper so it has a raw aspect to it. These are some of my first pages. It might lack a certain experience. But also some punch to it.

Lev's Crackdown

Untitled 4.png

Now this is punchy! A good old action scene. One of my favourites. I know the final decision for the contest would probably tend on story telling. Not much told here, at least not with this scene only...

The Lion Hallucination

Another punchy one. It has a good resolution and holds on 3 pages. Once again, out of contest this scene might seem a little odd (Even with context, thinking about it). This could have counted against me on the story side.

The NightClub Gunfight

Finally, the most bad ass action scene I made. Lights flashing, a hundred people dancing, a squad of hobo renegades unleashed. I went all in with this one. I found it great color wise but no surprises in terms of layout. Also to get the full effect I would have probably needed the whole chapter... Wasn't sure how many pages I could post.

That's my take on it, but you might have a different opinion. I'd love to know what you think.
Based on the pictures and description or if you read the story. What scene would you have selected?

Thanks for reading through this post. Nothing new I know...

But this could be a chance for new comers to see what my comic is about.
Taking the time to read through everything can be hard I know. ;-)

Please consider supporting my work by sharing or upvoting. Every little helps.
Crossing fingers for the contest!

See you on the other side,

Jrej

Good choices, mate. The layout and flow of the story is well captured. Good luck in the contest!
