Drawing like a pro - 8, the most important tool (Power up 100%)

in WORLD OF XPILAR2 years ago

Hi friends!

I hope you are well, I also hope that you are interested in following and participating in the new drawing lessons I'm doing.
As @bamuka rightly says in his post (https://steemit.com/hive-185836/@bambuka/30-14-days-diving-program-world-of-xpilar-community ), I have started a series of posts with the intention of sharing with you topics that have to do with the craft of drawing. I also try to share tips, or some related stories or anecdotes to show you the intrinsic value of the act of drawing.

First Posts

The first posts that I have published were an introduction to show you the materials and tools and the ways to use them.
These introductory posts are aimed at beginners or amateurs who want to improve their techniques or discover other ways to practice drawing.
After the introductory stage, I told you about the most efficient ways to use graphite pencils and the care to avoid damage to the support we use to draw (paper in this case).

Exercises

Now we are in the stage of the exercises that will allow you to gain confidence and ease in the strokes when drawing.
Like all exercises, they require patience and perseverance in order to learn them. We talk then about muscle memory. See related post
I will dedicate several posts to the topic of exercises to give you more learning elements and give you enough time to exercise before starting drawing.

Masterclasses and homework

The future dynamic will be as explained:
After a class or lesson, I'll give you a homework assignment, which you'll have to do according to the teachings you received in previous posts and the tips that I can offer you in the lesson.
You must send me your works within a stipulated period (perhaps 5 days) and I will rate them and give you my opinion about your drawings.
There will be a selection and the best works will receive the support of WOX curators.

An important clarification:

The objective of these classes is to teach drawing techniques, in the broadest sense of the word, which means observation, knowledge, study, exercise, and evaluation.
If you are expecting a tutorial on "drawing an eye" or "how to draw a rabbit and a cat" or "let's draw a face", for example, this is not the place. You can find such tutorials profusely on sites like YouTube or others. That would be the easiest and fastest way but it is not the purpose of these drawing lessons. The purpose is that you can draw everything as professionals do.

--------------------------------------------------------------

The most important tool

Well, now I'm going to tell you about the most important drawing tool: YOUR BODY. In this case, is your arm and your hand.

If we think about what happens when you exercise, we will see that your body works in the following way:

*Your mind visualizes what you are going to draw.
*Your eyes will be attentive to see and direct the drawing process.
*Your arm and your hand will try to draw the lines that you have proposed.
*Finished the lines, your eyes will help your mind to judge if your drawing was successful.
*Your muscle memory will retain the correct movements.
This memory is strongest as more you practice.

We will draw a freehand straight line, parallel to the top edge of the drawing sheet.

Here are some quick sketches to show you how you should use your arm and hand to draw a line.

With your arm fixed and moving only your hand when drawing you will achieve a curved and relatively short line.

With the arm fixed and moving the forearm by rotating it from the elbow you will get a longer curved line.

This is the right way to draw a freehand straight line!

By combining the motion of your arms, moving your elbow away from your body as you rotate your forearm, and keeping the direction of your hand unchanged, you'll get a perfectly straight line across the drawing sheet (with practice).
This doesn't sound easy but it's effortless to do it. Don't worry!

--------------------------------------------------------

The objective of these drawing lessons that I started thanks to the encouragement and support of @bambuka is to provide you with the knowledge of the craft of drawing with the tools, materials, techniques, and my thoughts about the act of drawing that will allow you to draw what you want professionally.

The road is long but full of beautiful things if you want to learn what I have learned from other artists and draftsmen.

Have a nice day!
