Ya, I Know
Labor Day is long since past, but I have to share some pictures with you of the night of. I took my son out fishing with me and being a fisherman, have to brag about it. It's what we do. We show off our catches, even if they aren't the greatest. It's part of fishing culture. In fact, if you go fishing and don't tell of your escapade, then you can't even call yourself a fisherperson.
What's That??
A Tennesseean Bullfrog! Now, normally, my son catches quite a few fish and in the 4 hours we spent negotiating the darkness and bank of the lake, this was all he caught! Not even on his pole either, he caught that by hand. Frog legs taste amazing btw, if you've never eaten them. I highly suggest it.
As For Me
I caught several smaller bass and this beastie here. Was a six and half pound largemouth that decided to sneak out from under a pile of brush and try to fool away with my lure. I thought I had humped over a branch under the water the way it hit and didn't realize it was on there because it was swimming at me. About 10 feet from the bank, it started to fight hard and it jumped a clean 2 feet out of the water! At first, because of the size and angle I got, I thought it was a catfish. All I saw was a black back. It wasn't until I got it to shore and wore it out that I realized it was a lunker. Made me pretty happy.

There's my redneck post for the month as I walk all walks. Ha! Seriously though, hope everyone pulled a good memory out of the holiday (if it was one for you) and have something to share about it. While you're doing whatever it is you do, REMEMBER TO BE YOU! I always am, even while skinning frogs.

Fishing? Why sure! I have fished as a young boy on the coast of South Jersey growing up and also used to go crabbing (I hate going crabbing and did as a boy, those damn bugs would eat us up). My Uncle, John Fisher, ran a fishmonger shop in South Jersey. Those smells still bring back great memories as a boy.
When I lived in Gainesboro, Tennessee I did a great deal of fishing. Never had a fishing license and when I caught a 5 pound small mouth bass (yes, not a typo, it was a small mouth bass. Not really 5 pounds, closer to 3 and 3/4 pounds, but I rounded up. Maybe it was the grandson of a catfish! That was one big fishy. Stalked that old boy for weeks and finally caught him with some cheese and ham on my fishing rig.), folks wanted to put me in the paper. Nah, did not want to get in trouble for fishing without a license.
Have not gone fishing in many years. I just get my fish from the supermarket now (very expensive). Appreciate you sharing your adventures though. Always look forward to your posts. They are great.

Nice bass and story about catching it. They can put up a great fight at that size. Fried frog legs are delicious!
Hecka ya man! I got my drag set fairly low so anything over about 4 lbs is a fun landing😁
