The long relentless break-down

Pluto in Capricorn has turned retrograde again. It stays that way about half the time -- being the furthest planet from the Sun -- so far. It covers only a few degrees each time ... rocking relentlessly back and forth in a slow progression through the sign. It turned retrograde this time at 24° -- and will retreat back to 21° -- turning direct again on October 3.

Transiting Pluto -- both direct and retrograde -- depicts the loooooong-term process of tearing down and improving things that are worn out, exhausted, inappropriate, obsolete, ineffective and falling into ruin.

Pluto stays in a sign anywhere from 12 to 36 years. It will be in Capricorn about 16 years all told. (It arrived there in 2008.) The cultural, social, political and personal life changes that unfold under its tenure move at a slow, relentless pace.

Building up over time

Changes are sometimes protracted ... imperceptible ... as tension builds and builds (like that along the geological fault lines in earthquake country), and then a riotous convulsion leaves behind a completely altered landscape.

All planetary energies work on all these levels, of course, but Pluto's craftsmanship in retrospect is always so impressive. Pluto's last transit through Capricorn saw the successful conclusion of the American Revolution in 1776 ... and the subsequent establishment of a new form of government in a country that ultimately figured in huge amounts of world history.

The next 5 years are set to unveil something equally momentous. I keep remembering that old Chinese curse ... "May you live in interesting times." Well, folks ... these will indeed be "interesting times." In fact, they already are.

Corporations, institutions, government itself

Pluto in Capricorn is concerned with renovating long-established structures and traditions, immense and "durable" features of daily life -- such as government, large corporations, major financial institutions, businesses and bureaucracies that virtually enshrine things like "chain of command" and a hierarchy of status as a fundamental tenet of operation. Such entities are able to render themselves "unassailable" except under "revolutionary conditions."

And so, as we are seeing nightly on the news, companies in the auto industry, the banking industry, the financial markets, the insurance industry have operated for decades with a smug, gun-slinger-like attitude that, as some people in government keep repeating, they are simply too big and too important to be "allowed to fail."

Well, in the end, they may not be allowed to "fail" in the traditional sense, but they will also no longer be able to "conduct business as usual." And ultimately, when history is able to judge what happens in the next 4 - 5 years as the dominoes fall and the fallout settles, it may amount to the same thing. Pluto's transit through Capricorn will see the demolition and improvement of all these "familiar features" and more -- including government itself.

Tearing down ... and rebuilding

As Pluto retrogrades for the next several months, we'll see things that have already been torn down into essential elements and raw materials ... start coming together again in the first few vital steps of rebuilding and renaissance ... and the next things in line for dissolution will start coming apart.

In a way, this is the end of "life as we know it" ... politically / socially, etc. But it's also the beginning of something much better. (If any of you have ever tried to -- or had to -- live in a house while it was being remodeled and renovated ... you know how inconvenient, disruptive and uncomfortable that "in between" period from commencement to conclusion can be!!)

Where is this happening for you?

Each of us will also feel this personally. As Pluto moves through these waning degrees of Capricorn, where is it traveling in your Natal Chart now? And where is it going next? And where will it wind up eventually? Those are the areas of your personal world in line for a major overhaul.

And any aspects transiting Pluto makes to placements in your Natal Chart on its journey will show periods and life areas due to reverberate right along with the massive personal changes in this one highlighted spot. (Do you have Natal Chart placements in Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn, Taurus, Virgo, Scorpio or Pisces? If so ... what are they and where are they?? If any of them are near the degrees where Pluto is transiting now, guess what? The time I'm talking about is at hand.)

A complete change in life direction ... in time

This is the process I have been citing when I talk about the major shift in professional pursuits and career directions -- public status and community standing -- now underway. In time you will no longer think of yourself as "who you are today" or any offshoot remotely connected to that role ... and you may not be doing anything close to what you've done in the past -- as you move on into the future.

(That's why it helps to know what's coming, how to recognize the warning signs of substantial changes, and how to move with the tide. It's why a working knowledge of Astrology qualifies in my mind as a "survival skill.")

Anyway ... Pluto is now in retrograde, and another act in the drama of daily life and global destiny is set to unfold. Whenever you can, sit back and enjoy the show. And learn more about it here.

Another one of your "Thanks. I think" specials.

I read an interesting post regarding impeachment and the constitutional requirements for it earlier this morning. As I read your post I was flashing on that. At least until I got to the personal part...

Thank you, sincerely, for the time, effort and knowledge this has taken from your life. I deeply appreciate it.

They're all "Thanks. I think." lately. Even I feel that way. I literally laugh myself silly -- in a very ironic way -- over some of these. We're heading into a real whirlwind, and I'm not sure I'm ready for it. Even though I've been watching the symbolism of it coming together for years. It's one thing to see it on paper. It's another thing entirely to witness it in real life.

All I can say is, "Hold tight."

I'd enjoy all this a whole lot more if I didn't have to live through it. (I can say that, too.)

Well, I am very much old enough to consider the alternative to 'live through it'. I think I'll give it a shot. Forewarned can't hurt....
