The Full Moon in Capricorn

The aspect of the Sun opposing the Moon is the classic phenomenon the rest of the world calls the Full Moon. The Full Moon symbolically highlights a state of tension between two conflicting desires, ambitions, requirements, or sets of values -- each a respected and necessary part of life, and each somehow problematic for the other.

In this situation, as in all oppositions, you need a compromise to satisfy the requirements of both elements -- in this case, ego desires on the one hand and emotional loyalties and possibly firmly ingrained habits on the other.

The balancing act, especially in this configuration, is not easy ... since it places two different systems, personal desires, of inner parts of you in conflict with one another, requiring that some kind of new arrangements be found and new bargains struck with yourself about the conduct of your life.

Usually, however, oppositions show interpersonal conflicts, problems in your relationships, disagreements between you ... and a partner, or at the very least, quarrels and clashes between you and someone else in which neither side is right, neither side is wrong, but both sides are willing to go to extremes to get their own way in the matter at hand -- and both sides display their most unattractive features during the "negotiations" between them.

The Sun under stress depicts conduct and attitudes that are notoriously arrogant, self-centered, haughty, demanding, and imperious. It inclines you (and everyone!!) to "give orders and want them followed" ... and shows a deep investment in one point of view to the exclusion of others. The opposing Moon in a Full Moon configuration, however, insists in ways that cannot be ignored that you take its contradictory agenda and values into account!!!

The classic conflict

This opposition between the Cancer Sun and the Capricorn Moon -- the Full Moon that graces the celestial landscape after the Summer Solstice, highlights the tug-of-war between the responsibilities you have to your private life, family members, and home situation -- and the emotional yearning for fame, acclaim, recognition, and accomplishment in your professional field and career.

It intensifies the need for balance between your public life and your personal world -- in time-sharing, attention, and commitment.

With the afflicted Cancer Sun, the prevalent energy affecting you (and everyone else!) is moody, resentful, overwrought, insecure, self-pitying, and often highly upset about conditions "at home," connected somehow to the state of your physical dwelling, or to problems within the family circle -- which consciously or not, you feel reflect badly on you or which fail to give the kind of support and emotional protection you believe you need and deserve.

With the afflicted Capricorn Moon, the prevalent energy affecting you and everyone else is frustrated, inflexible, discouraged, "rule bound," status-conscious, lonely, stingy, and mean-spirited. In extreme cases, it can be extraordinarily cold and vindictive.

Both these energies are highly concerned with matters of status -- both at home and in your public life. How you appear, what others think of you, how your authority and control is respected, the comfort of your surrounding conditions, what these say about your achievements and personal worth ... all these are under heavy scrutiny -- and the verdict is rarely one that pleases you. You may be extremely discontented with the status quo ... and yet feel blocked from making any changes that will give satisfying results.

If this is where you feel "you live" during this time every year ... well, this is the discomfort that will help you find answers to realign the balance -- and solve the problem, at least temporarily.
