Festival of Praise "Laudes Domini" - Phil Lehenbauer | Secrets of Organ Playing Contest Week 25

This is my entry for the Secrets of Organ Playing Contest Week 25. I didn't submit an entry last week as I was guest judge. This week, the judge is fellow organist and Steemian, @partitura.

This piece is by my American organist friend, Phil Lehenbauer. He only composed this piece very recently (in the last week!) and was kind enough to share it with me. He has shared many of his compositions with me in the past and I have always been delighted and honoured to play them. Most recently, I played his Trinity Procession last Sunday in lieu of the big St Anne Prelude (Bach). I made the last minute decision to change postludes as the length was more favourable.

You will notice I am using headphones in my video this week—it is late and my children are asleep and I'm not sure I'd have any other opportunity to record before the contest closes. Also, the church where I usually record is having the organ cleaned (requires dismantling) over the next few weeks. So my recordings will probably have to be in my home studio for the time being.

You can support Phil by subscribing to his YouTube channel. Perhaps one day he might join steemit and participate in @organduo's contest.

This is great, both composition and performance. I do hope you'll record it again when your real live organ is available again, I'd very much like to hear this on a real organ.

Thank you!

The 7/8 meter adds unpredictability to the flow. The texture changes are quite timely. Sounds like a fun theme to rif on... Add various keys and modes. Hopefully you can play it for your congregation when the organ is ready.

Nice piece with a good rhythm.

Thanks. Tricky rhythm in 7/8!

John Rutter wrote an organ duet in 7/8. Most unusual time signature but ever effective.

Do you know the title of that duet?

It is Duet on an Easter Theme.(O Filii et filiae. https://global.oup.com/academic/product/variations-on-an-easter-theme-9780193757158?cc=au&lang=en&

Apogogies for an error I made above. The 7/8 time signature belongs to another Rutter organ piece : Toccata in 7.
