Apps I've found For The Steem Block Chain

I have only been using Steemit for 2 months now and I've slowly been diving deeper down the rabbit hole and what I've found has only shown me the enormity of what this project is becoming and how decentralised development will change the way we deploy web tech.

If you're a noob like me you've probably only used Steemit to interact with the Steem blockchain and you're still finding your feet and your way around the platform. There is plenty to learn on how to optimise your performance on Steemit alone and personally, I've yet to master it myself and im learning something new every day.

There is more to Steem than Steemit

The reason I say this is because what I'm about to dive into can quickly become overwhelming just thinking about it and I don't blame you if it does, it still gets to me at times.

So The Steem blockchain like many blockchains is a public ledger and can be communicated with and can be interacted with in numerous ways. These applications built on the Steem blockchain all have a purpose to provide you with more data or a richer experience when using and contributing to the Steem blockchain.

Mobile Apps

If you like to use Steemit from your mobile you may notice your data is diminisng at a rapid rate or that the mobile experience does lack a great deal especially when it comes to posting. Many Steemians have complained about this and some developers have stepped up to offer alternative solutions in providing a native app mobile experience

The following apps are available for iOS and Android and you can easily connect these apps to your Steemit account using Steem Connect and use Steemit via these apps

  • bSteem
  • Steemify
  • SteemitApp

Marketplace

Utopian - https://utopian.io/

Utopian is a platform with a focus around open-source developers. This project is unique because they have found a way to reward open-source developers for their contributions through the GitHub platform and through Utopian itself.

Blocktrades - https://blocktrades.us/

Blocktrade is used to power up your Steem account with both internal and external cryptocurrencies as well as transfering your Steem or SBD to wallets or exchanges

Blogging

Busy is essentially a replacement for Steemit. The difference though, is that Busy has a lot cleaner user interface as well as some features that Steemit is lacking. I've recently started using busy as my main point of contribution to Steemit and find it a much better experiencee.

Zappl is basically the Twitter of Steem and ideal for daily updates and short form content. Posts have a 280 character limit.

Photography & images

SteepShot is essentially Instagram but built on Steem. As with all content on the blockchain you can be rewarded for your posts, it also has an IOS and Android app but be warned this app can be buggy so check your feed on Steemit to make sure your posts are actually being synced to your account and the blockchain

dMania is an app very similar to the likes of 9GAG but lives on the Steem blockchain. Users are able to post funny pics, memes, videos or gifs and are rewarded by the community for the quality of their posts and contributions.

Video

As you can tell from the name DTube is a replacement for YouTube. It utilizes the Steem blockchain and rewards video creators for their content. This type of decentralized, rewards based project could someday overtake YouTube especially since they have been sensoring a lot of people lately and de-monetizing their channels while paid content seems to have an advantage on Youtube and independent content creators are slowly becoming marginalise

DLive is a decentralized live streaming service that is being compared to Twitch simply because most of its most popular content is gaming based but the platform can and hopefully will become so much more

Doesn't really need an explanation now does it

Audio

Dsound is an application developed by @prc which allows us to upload,download, listen to music or podcasts, think Soundcloud for the blockchain

Instant messaging

Offers users the ablity to chat or engage in various chatrooms
