Jacked Up... Ink & Chicken
I met Sibu (Black Crystal Ink) at Fire & Feast the other day. He was at the Jack Daniel's stand engraving Gentleman Jack bottles... and with my love of ink and Jack, I just HAD to have one.
(Un)fortunately his work was so popular, that there just wasn't time for him to get to mine at the fest, so Rob (Jack Daniel's) organised a little meetup for us after the festival. I promised you a video of this in an earlier Fire & Feast post... well... this is me making good on that promise.
The deal was that he would give both Sibu and myself each a bottle of Jack and we had to do something with it.
Jack & Ink
It was Sibu's turn first, and he 'tattooed' Uncle Jack onto a bottle... He made it look SOOOO easy... check out these pics:
This looks so cool, I think Jack Daniel's should be doing it on ALL their bottles from now on :P
Jack & Chicken
I recently did a lekker sweet-chilli chicken recipe, and figured it could only get better with a few tweaks and some Old No. 7... so that's exactly what I did. The sauce turned out so good that we almost ended up wrestling each other for the last drumsticks, and now the sauce is a permanent fixture whenever I cater events. So if you're ever at Hazeldean or Park Acoustics... make sure you pop by my stand and give it a try... or watch the video for the recipe and try it out for yourself at home.
So yes... The new recipe was a winner, but the star of the show was a little surprise Sibu did while I was making the chicken.

haha... thanks... Like many/most of my stories, they started off as a joke, and then ended up sticking.
That really is what cooking is all about, mixing new ideas, good spin and onto the flames (not excluding new talented friends).

Mixing new ideas doesn't always work... but mistakes/fails are indeed the best way to learn ;-)
That recipe looks delicious. I am definitely going to try that at my next braai.
It IS... I tweaked it a bit and took it with to a market on the weekend where I was making "gourmet grillers".
People came back... not for seconds, but asking if I was bottling the sauce :P
I have a great recipe for a chilli relish that is a huge hit. We will have to make an exchange oneday.

The engravings are truly amazing. I’ve only seen engravings on bottles done with a laser etcher locally.
