Chapter 28: Smoke

"So you have people within the organisation working to overthrow it?" asked Bella.
"Yes"
"And you were living on the streets but you most recently have been at our old house pretending you are doing the work of the organisation?" asked Bella.
"Yes that's correct" said Jack, "And actually we have a new task I think I may need one of you for."
Sitting on a chair, Jack glanced around the room at his family and Nathan sitting on the couches in the lounge.
"What is the task?" asked Maree.
"We need to find out and experience how humans reproduce" answered Jack.

Nathan pulled his phone out of his pocket, fiddled with it for a moment and then sat it on the table.
Just checking the time" he mumbled.

"Oh Neptune, does this relate to the page in the Joy of Earth book on infantile birthing?" asked Bella, "That looked horrible".
"I think so" said Jack, "but it also includes whatever leads to that and I don't have a clue what that is" said Jack.
Jack looked to Nathan.
"How do humans reproduce Nathan?" asked Jack.
"You have sex" he answered.
"What's sex?"
Nathan's phone rang.
"I'd better go answer this" said Nathan, excusing himself from the room. He went outside with his phone.

Jack sighed and said to his family, "I guess we are going to have to work this one out ourselves." He stood up.
"I'm going for a walk and I'm going to try to find out what sex is" he announced. He left the house.

Jack walked down the street and came across an old lady. He walked up to her.
"Excuse me female" said Jack. She looked at him.
"Can you help me understand what sex is?"

A moment later, Jack picked himself up off the ground after being whacked by the bag she was holding. He looked around but she was out of sight.
"What's her problem?" he grumbled.

He continued and went down another street. There was a familiar sight. It was a shop he frequented when he was homeless. He went in and saw Mike, the owner.
"Jack, how are you going?" asked Mike.
"Good Mike, I have a place to stay now and I was allowed to return to my old home too"
"That's great. Now what can I do you for?"
"I am staying with Nathan and..."
"Nathan just a couple of streets from here?"
"Yes, he has been taking care of my fake family I told you about"
"I know Nathan" said Mike, "He's one of the few customers I still have nowadays. People don't tend to rent DVDs anymore"

"Yes, he's been good. Anyway, Mike, you gave me good advice in my time of need and I need some more. Nathan wants us to have sex"

A look of realisation spread over Mike's face.
"Hmm that explains a bit" he said,"I didn't know he was that way"
"Yes he is very good" saiad Jack, "The problem is I don't know how."
"Running out of ideas already? You guys must be doing nothing else"
"Yes I do a lot of idea generating" said Jack.
"Well I know just the thing to get some fire going under the sheets. Your room will be full of smoke in no time it will be so hot" said Mike.
"Umm okay" replied Jack.
"Follow me out the back. You need one of my adult movies to really get things heating up" said Mike.

Soon Jack was leaving with a movie that he thought would solve his problem, not having any idea that what it would show is not how humans reproduce.
'Mike is really helpful' he thought, 'Thanks to him I know this is a movie, not a docu-hologram.'
As Jack left, Mike said, "Glad to see you are doing okay under the witness protection program".
"Thanks" said Jack, and he wondered like he had many other times in his dealings with Mike what that was, but just dismissed those thoughts and felt glad that he could confide in Mike to the level of saying his family isn't his real family but he doesn't want to be without them.
