Sortiarius Chest challenge

Coolest IFC idea challenge. :)

Time Travel Question

Time travel is a tricky subject, for the purpose of this contest here is how time travel works.

  1. It is a one way trip.
  2. No fears of landing in a tree or mountain.
  3. From whatever time you land history is unwritten moving forward from that point in time, however past history is still alive and valid. If you time traveled back to the christian inquisition and suddenly appeared in the middle of a church, odds are you would be burned as a demon or witch. Likewise if you took a stack of newspapers and expect to get rich off of lottery numbers, not gonna happen because the future has been unwritten. While the yankees in your pre-time travel time may have won the world series they may not even be in the series or it may have been canceled. The future from where you jumped back to is unknowable.
  4. If you choose to travel forward in time, then the past history is gone, you may think you know what happened in the year 2014, but that history is gone, no longer a part of the timeline you are on.
  5. Because of the way this version of time travel works, there is no "You killed your grandfather so you were not born" paradox. Also there is no other you in the time you travel to.

Okay so that is how Time Travel works for this challenge.

Time Travel Contest

  1. Pick 8 things you would take with you to the past.
  2. Write a short paragraph, or a couple of sentences for each Item you chose and why.
  3. Your can only take things that would fit in a four by four space on the floor around you.
  4. They can be anything, living, inanimate, tools, books, electronics, all rules of physics still work at when you went.

Remember the IFC is mostly about having fun. I hope a lot of people will give their ideas on what type of contest content they would like to see. As you can see @apolymask has already created several rounds on what people have suggested. As always, if you have any questions just about anyone playing or involved in IFC will try to answer, as best they can. So feel free to ask if you do not understand.

Sort:

This is something I would try. I am the simplest of writers so need the practice. Sounds like fun.

The various rounds and challenges have been a lot of fun, I have had to step out of the comfort zone several times, but the contestants are real nice and we are not a very judgmental group, we are just having a blast. Lots of time still to play along. Currently there are four rounds open, well two get rewards and two get XP, it's rather complicated at times.
Round 22-23 Music and Children's Stories from Cryptopia!!!!!!!Will be updated! that shows the status of round 22 and 23, Music(22), story time(23), and who has entered so far and links to their entries. (Even though I am not eligible to win round 23, I did it for the fun). Here are the rules for round 22, and these are the rules for round 23.

Here is the slightly complicated part. There are artifacts,(little advantages one can win), associated with the games. two of these have been returned to the Virtual Storage room, so two side quest have been made.

One is for the "Sortiarius Chest" (It gives you 5 full upvotes from @apolymask on your entries), and for that he is looking for "Coolest IFC idea challenge. :)" - - That is what this (my entry) is about. He did pick one of my ideas the every word begins with the same letter challenge, (man did people have fun with that).

The other challenge is: "For the Magic Dancing Shoes" - - - If you have these and are on/in the Discord chat group, then you get advance warning of what the next challenge is going to be. For this challenge "Funniest Selfie! This doesn't have to be a selfie of you, you can find one on the internet somewhere or whatever..", he understands that some of us just don't want our faces plastered all over the internet and made into meme's by meanies. So he gave us an out if we want to try.

So a couple days left for round 22 and 23, and 4 or 5 days for the bonus two. Any questions feel free to ask, none of us mind one little bit, it is about the group and about the fun. The payouts for a win are a very nice bonus.

I like your page breaks!

This is a pretty neat idea. Time travel contest. I like it! Hopefully that will be a round in the future, or would it be the past, or is it now. LOL!!! You are always full of awesome ideas tho glad you are a part of the IFC you have kept it interesting for sure!

Thank you, I saw we seemed to be getting a few writers, so sort of thought another writing one, that wasn't a writing one but that people had to think and say why they chose. It may pull some preppers in also. They like end of the world scenarios, which this is sort of a start your world scenario.

Oh my page break, I didn't have one for IFC, and well I'm getting tired of the HR bar. Any one reading this feel free to use it, I don't care it was just a quicky bar, the dashes don't line up with each other but it's hardly noticeable.

That's an awesome reason to start this contest I would have never thought of something so creative! I am not much on the creative side with my writing. I am working at it tho! That's what matters.
Definitely didn't notice the offline dashes lol, but we are our own worst critics right! I hope you have an awesome night/day! I am off to my first day of work!

Good luck on this challenge!

Congratulations, you have been resteemed because you used the #newbieresteemday tag and have a good post!

Thank you for the resteem.

The essential tool-kit for any time traveller.
1 Would have to be the latest smartphone tech with charger connections. plus spare batteries. Essential for every time travellers carry-on bag.
2 Multiple passports. Never know when an emergency might come up.
3 For currency diamonds, a small amount carries a lot of weight.
4 A typewriter, it's a good cover story.
5 Small spy kit, like remote cameras, surveillance stuff, digital dictaphone, night vision goggles, portable solar recharger.
6 Clean underwear in case it's a rough journey.
7 Some family photo's, won't be able to pick those up here you're going.
8 Butch, the dog, every traveller needs a side-kick.

Much depends on the time I was to land in too. But I think that selection would be beneficial to any time you went back to.

Yes I should have said number 9. what time/how far back did you go.

  1. A cell/smart phone no real use prior to whatever year it came out, say 2000 your g4/5 phone would not work, Oh it would turn on and you would be able to take pictures, play whatever game you had, or apps you had, but no guarantee that the technology will continue to develop the way it did.
  2. Your passport if you went back more than 5 years would likely not pass inspection.
  3. Those would be useful not just for currency in any time a person chose to travel to. I agree.
  4. Useful for the machine age forward, but what about the middle ages? Would you be able to keep it working, keep an ink ribbon for it, avoid the priest of the era?
  5. A good kit, for modern age, and pre religion age, otherwise useless, and could get you killed for being a witch.
  6. That I agree. Clothing, although that could cause problems in some eras.
  7. Photo's could be bad, could be seen as holding a persons soul captive, and would you really for the rest of your life want to see reminders of what you left behind?
  8. Butch, a good Idea. pass.

So out of 8 I would say pass on 3, fail on 5. But I don't know how far back you went. Only you know that.

So a time frame or period of Egyptian time Middle ages or other. possibly a choice of 3 different specified times to choose from.
A second specification might be needed as to the area in that time someone will transport to. Like Egyptian times, would I materialise at a market, or at a religious sermon, in the farm fields?

You can pick one time, any time to travel to, you can pick a location, if you use a relatively accurate map,you could pick hopefully a place not to populated, If you just pick say rome 543BC, then you could end anywhere. If you picked NY New Years day, Times Square, then You would likely be okay, as no one would probably notice you in the crowd. But even picking a place like a farmers field, there could be people that see you materialize. Also you need to remember you will have some gear with you. So you see Time Travel can be rather iffy.

Phew! Another round! This is going to be an interesting one. I'm going to go around smashing things and see which 8 I regret breaking...

This is Not an official round. It is a response to a request for a round idea mentioned in the ladder win round. Where he is looking for two new round Ideas:

Moving on..
So.. This is kind of sudden but we're going to do two bonus rounds as well right now since the Magic Dancing Shoes and Sortiarius Chest are now back up for grabs.

For the Magic Dancing Shoes challenge the subject will be.. Funniest Selfie!

And.. For the Sortiarius Chest challenge the subject will be.. Coolest IFC idea challenge. :)

I guess I should have been more clear in my title, it does sound like it is a round-but in reality it is just a suggested round.

uh oh... I have a lot of explaining to do....

cracked-dishes.jpg

That is to funny, you could always explain it as I was getting ready to do an art project of tiling the top of that ugly old table with the beautiful legs.

No, I think saying I was getting ready for time travelling will work!

Nice contest idea @bashadow. You have got your muse on steem or what?

What I want to understand is that we just write paragraphs on 8 items right?

That is how I intended it, not sure how it will change if it is picked, and a few sentence or how jan23com did it would also work. But I thought have people give a reason why they picked it. Like in @jan23com selection list, A dog. I would have done something like:

  1. A dog, why, I would not need to worry about finding one or training or possible domesticating one in the time I picked to travel to. Along with protection it would provide a little bit of companionship, and also act as a hunters assistance. So I think my taking a Dog along would work out well.

So that is kind of what I had in mind as an example.

OK. So I get to choose the time that I am travelling to? Do I also get to choose the place in that time. For example, can I pick Germany in the 60's?

Yep, any place any time, history up to that time happened, anything after that time may or may not have happened. So going back to stop Kennedy or Martin Luther King from being assassinated would not work, because they may or may not be killed. Or the manner of their deaths may be different.

Very interesting and creative! I think this would be possible...I loved your description of how time travel works. Maybe in addition add where you will be traveling? I just like the topic of time traveling in general!! :) But the twist you put on is neat!

This sounds like a really interesting challenge! I love the idea of time travel as well in general! :D But.. I'm a little uncertain of how it would work?
When people pick the items and the time they would go to.. Do the judges then vote on how likely they would survive..? Or...? I think it's a fascinating idea, but not exactly the extents of it. Do they write a story about it all, or just which time they would travel to and then the judges sort of decide what happens to them based on the items they brought..?

Uhmm, I didn't think of how the judges would judge. I'm not sure. maybe based on the descriptions of what and why they took those items, gut feeling as to what would help a person survive, I'll have to think about it, or maybe get a few judges to say how they think they would judge such a concept, or what they would need added to the contest to make it "judgeable". I'll think more on it.

Seems like you have a lot of interest in this quest. We should definitely do this one in the future, lemme know when you get all the details ironed out and we can talk about it more. :)

I will do that, all the comments are helping with the ironing.

I'm voting for this one for the bonus cool IFC idea challenge. iexplore had a great one about adding more details to the IFC Hall Of Fame.. Which I think we will naturally do in time. So that helped me pick yours since you have up with another really unique quest idea that in some ways is generic in terms of time travel, but.. You added some interesting rules to it and I think this will be a really fun challenge, plus your last challenge did so incredibly well that I want to see how your next quest will do in comparison! And based on a lot of the feedback you got already, I think it's going to be a really good one! I'm looking forward to doing this quest in the future! Thanks for another awesome entry! :)

Great, I need to remember to think when I do my post when it is played. I think the judges will have fun reading the justifications, we have some really fun people, and I am sure at least one will come up with some off the wall thoughts.

Agreed! :) I think this will be a really fun one with some very interesting entries! There's a lot of great writers in our group and on steemit in general! Am looking forward to it. :D
