Road to American Ninja Warrior - Day 61
Day 61
I've been in a bit of a weird spot this week.
Normally if I have something big on a Saturday, then I'd go hard Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and then just do cardio and stretching on Thursday and Friday to be all hyped and ready for rollin' on Saturday.
Except....
I was sore for 3 days from the comp Saturday and the bush walk Sunday... so by Wednesday I was still pretty sore.
Finding out that I'm probably not be going to compete on Saturday or in a month has also confused my processes a bit.
There is an event on Saturday set up but the AWN Experience rivals, the first (and now undisputed best) Wolfpack Ninjas but it's unclear if it's just for kids or if it's an actual competition or not...
Also - my January challenges kind of went out the window when I basically started training for the Ninja Competition all the time. The challenges were a way for me to focus my training, which didn't really make sense when I had something big and scary to focus on. I was good(ish) at the stretching and meditation, but for all the other things, I always chose to train on obstacles I'd likely see instead of acro yoga and one armed pull ups.
So, I'm intending to continue my challenges into February. Since it looks like I have no competitions, then these challenges will be my focus. Booyeah!
We're still going to both Phoenix and San Diego, they'll just be less Ninja-specific breaks.
So, exercises for today. It was actually pretty identical to Day 19.
Today's exercises
Warmup
5 minutes of jump rope
5 minutes of Cross-trainer cardio
Death hill
5 hill sprints (with bin-putting-out-warm up)
Tendonitis eccentric exercises
15 pounds on the cable machine; pulling it every which way for 15 reps each.
Grip Strength exercises
Mixed it up today, played on my pipes, lache bars and climbing grips until the forearms felt sore. Also, my gymnastic rings are mouldy.... what's up with that?
Injuries & sore spots
Still sore in the legs and forearms... which today just made heaps worse.
Goals for February
- 20 minutes of stretching every day (inspired by @polebird)
- At least 2 classes of acroyoga (inspired by @karensuestudios)
- One armed pull up
- One handed pushup (challenged by @dolladu)
- 8 foot peg board (challenged by @skiesandsports)
- 15 minutes of meditation and visualization every day (challenged by @just2random)
Upcoming Events
AZ on the Rocks Wolfpack Event in Phoenix - 10th Feb
American Ninja Warrior Experience in Phoenix - 10th Feb
American Ninja Warrior Experience in San Diego - 3rd March

Mate! your work out plans are always great to read and to be honest very inspiring .Keep up the good work champ!
-back to gym for me using the chin up assist machine (you shove weights on the end to counter weight your body...as got no one to spot me). I've got a 33 kg assist (I only weigh 75 Kg). My goal is to do 10 chin ups within the next 3 months, with 0 kg assist...basically just do 10 chin ups....have no idea if its possible for someone who has weak upper body, but gonna try
Any tips? for an unfit person to reach this specific goal? like what do you recommend for me to get there? just keep doing 3 sets every 3 days? at moment I fail at about 3 reps with 22 kg assist, which is the next setting.
Hey dude... I'm on the road to the Grand Canyon at the moment... so wifi is super sketch.
3 sets every 3 days is ace. Try and do them as slowly as possible... even if you have to up the assist... the slower the better... I'm going a 4 count down and a 4 count up, and it really does build the strength way faster than 16 quick pull ups.
The other thing you can try is to jump up on the bar with no assist and lower yourself down.
Basically though, you're totally on the right track! Keep it up!
Also, I can't find the convo cos I'm on my phone and have desert internet, but in regards to our other convo... this guy'll be back... stealin' dice from everyone.
Man that hurts going slow (tried today)...but no pain no gain. Wonder how it will feel tomorrow.
..Will try the jump thing next, place was packed so feeling a bit self conscious.
Cool mate! - Enjoy the Canyon and be safe, chat soon to get that sly lazy Gobbo into action :)
How are you feeling today dude?
Yeah, honestly, the self-consciousness thing at the gym never really goes away... only the massive 50% bicep attention seeking guys really like it there... everyone else wishes they had the place to themselves. I always feel like a massive weirdo at the gym because I don't even touch the weights.
Super glad you gave it a try... Slow = strong!
Yeah some good pain, but not that bad..I think 'back' must recover a bit easier.
See how I go tomorrow, will keep pushing hard..slow (ouch), more counterweight if must and more reps if I can get them in.
After a couple weeks I'll try again with less counter weight (22Kg) and see if I have improved and can do more then 2 hehe.
Awesome! I did slow pull ups yesterday.. and very much felt it today...
What do you think of this? Totally open to make changes...
@gobbo
Gobbo sneaks in and steals all the dice.
He laughs like a jerk and throws a die.
The sneaky git rolls a 3.
Lol!
@gobbo
Double lol! if Gobbo officially joins teamaus? - have to work on Choo..
Yeah...it/chinups creeped on me as well...
Hey Gobbo bot seems great! will have to chat about how he activates etc? like is he is tied into your account only to call, or can it be temp assigned to mine for torny...Don't mind if you bring him in, but you'll need to randomly pick some people to hit with the gobbo bot hehe. up to you :)

So anyone can call him... the only reason it didn't work for you just before is my computer was off while I'm travelling. I'll get him on a 24/7 hosting server at some point soon.
I've also got some dice roll bots that you can use for your game as well:
@gobbo
@rollthedice
@rolltwodice
Would anything else be helpful for you as well? 3 dice? D20?
Rest up and get back to it dude. I cannot imagine doing a one armed push up. I shall decline such a challenge but wish you well :D
Hahahaha, dagnammit... I thought this was going to be the start of the biggest blockchain crossover in it's history... multinational synchronised one armed push ups! Shame.
Yeah, I can't really figure out how to do it either... I think it's mainly possibly through extreme grunting.
ha ha not in this little corner of the world. My son can do one arm pull ups. I have no idea if he can do the push up. I shall ask him when he gets home.
That must be devastating! I'm sorry this happened this way! Boo. You seem to have a great outlook about it, and I really admire that about you! Keep trucking on and let me know about this weekend! It's going to be hot as balls so I hope you are ready for that! :)
Hahahaha, I am never ready for that. The girls will love it though. (ah, not because they love balls, they just love sunshine, it's been cold in Oregon and Australia, I mean, they might love balls, although, no one honestly loves balls do they, uh, this got wildly off-track).
To be honest, I'm a dude... I can only focus on one thing at a time... so I was all about the Portland comp, and then I was sore from the Portland comp, and then it'll be the weekend and then it'll be the Grand Canyon... so it would have been super cool... but it's not as big a deal to me as say, the hundreds of kids who got tix as Christmas presents. Parents on Facey are going crazzzzzzzy.
I bet. Oh Lawd, and Lolz about the balls. I wish I could go to Oregon and get me some of that cold. Ugh, I have had the AC on all day!!! It's ridiculous!
