The Mage.

The speed at which the land was dying was not natural, the dead woods George had walked though when he first returned had doubled in size in just over a week. Behind the stench of poison and decay George could now feel the dark magic of the stain of Mordred. He needed to find a place of strong earth magic so it could push back against the darkness but with the poisoning of the springs at Glastonbury the Tor would be weakened. George knew he needed to get to one of the great Henges and would need the help of many others to rise the power of the earth and channel it through the lay lines around the country. George turned and headed back to his old village and hoped the followers from the Tor had found the Reverend Karen and she had helped them.

George was soon outside the vicarage of the Reverend and knocked on the back door, after a couple of minutes she answered the door and quickly ushered him through the door and popping her head out to quickly look around before shutting the door. She looked worried as she ushered George into the living room.
“Well it seems you caused quite a stir and I’ve had people turning up giving your name and asking for help for the last few days.” she finally said as she sat down.
“I’m sorry to bring this trouble to your door but I don’t know many people and I need help to stop the poisoning of the land.” George said.
“I’ve spoken to your friend Mick, a bit of a strange one, done far too many drugs in the past but has sworn he’s given them up to follow you and your teachings.” Reverend Karen said with a slight smile.
“He may change his mind when I tell you all what is happening.” George replied.
“Well let’s nip over to the church, I’ve got them hidden in the crypt and borrowing food from the food bank and homeless shelter to feed them.” Reverend Karen said in a matter of fact way.
“I must say you seem very calm about all this.” George said in surprise.
“Well to be honest I find it all very exciting, I’ve spent my life recycling and doing my bit to save the world. From what I’ve seen of you and from taking to Mick and the others this could be the real deal.” Reverend Karen said excitedly.
“We could all die.” George said bluntly.
“Have faith young man, the Lord is with us.” Reverend Karen said leaning over and patting his knee.

Reverend Karen let them into the church by the side door she always used and left George sat on the front pew as she went to get the people from the crypt where she had hidden them. George knew he needed their help but didn’t know how much he could tell them of what they faced. These people apart from the Reverend where what were classed as Wiccans and pagans and followed the spirit of the Old Ways, they had discovered the truth of the Old Ways and were eager to learn. George looked up as the small group of people followed the Reverend in and decided that they all deserved the truth, they needed to know of the Dark Gods. They had to have a chance to make a choice, everything depended on the choice of people to do what they wanted to do.

George finished telling what he knew and what he had learnt, missing out nothing and looked around the faces of those around him, he saw fear and resolve but luckily no doubt.
Finally Mick spoke, while not the brightest he had an ability to take in information in and order it into a way that he and anyone else could then understand.
“These Dark Gods, they’re like a demon realm then and this earth power is sort of the prison that keeps them locked up.” he said uncertain.
“There are many realms, so that could be a good way to explain it. Mordred has been working to weaken the earth power for centuries and he is close to releasing them, we have to stop or reverse the damage he is doing.” George replied.
“How do we manage that? From what you say and what we’ve seen this Mordred owns the companies doing the damage and the government to boot. We have no way to counter the entire establishment.” one of the older men said.
“With prayers and a celebration, since George first left I’ve been doing some research on some of the things we spoke about when we first met. We bring everyone together, my church and parishioners, all of your Wiccans and the environmentalists who are protesting the damage from fracking and pollution. We all join forces, we become a united movement.” Reverend Karen said hopefully.
“It would take too long to organise and get the permits for a large gathering and to find a venue.” The man said in doubt.
“I wasn’t planning on asking for permission young man, I was just going to turn up and send an open invite, the more people we get to start an occupation the more people will travel to join us.” Reverend Karen said folding her arms, defying anyone to disagree.

To be continued.
