My Curie Story: How Curie gave me steam for steem

SOURCE

I read a post by the @curie account asking for people who have benefited from curie upvotes in one way or the other to tell their curie story with the #mycuriestory. After reading this post, I took it upon myself to write my curie story as a way of supporting curie's quest to get even more steempower to keep on helping more and more people as the steemit population grows. Although, I do know that I am not the only one who is going to be writing my curie story (because so many people have also benefited from curie upvotes), I decided to give my own little testimony and I hope it goes a long way in helping curie achieve their goals. But before I go ahead, I'd like to give you a little information on curie and what they do. . .

What is curie?

Curie is a steemit community project that was announced some time around August 2016. The main purpose for the creation of the curie project was to discover and reward new steemians who were quality content creators in order to keep them on Steemit and give them the visibility that they needed on the platform. However, over time, curie has evolved and now they reward both new and even old authors as they are now focused on rewarding all original, quality and exceptional posts on steemit.

On a daily basis, many curators from all around the globe work day and night to select the best and most quality posts from different categories and tags for massive curation. The goal of curie is to reward all quality content creators on steemit irrespective of their genre of blogging. Although, the “Project Curie” team originally started with: Tom (@donkeypong), The Alien (@the-alien), @liberosist, Etherpunk (@kevinwong), Anwen Baumeister (@anwenbaumeister), @infovore @gavvet @steemship, and contributors such as Cryptogee (@cryptogee), Andrew Levine (@andrarchy), @piedpiper, @nanzo-scoop, rok Sivante (@rok-sivante), curie has now grown to have many more curators.

My curie story

I vividly remember waking up around 11am one morning late last year (I know 11am is a pretty late time to wake up but what could I do?) I was fresh out of high school at the time and I pretty much had nothing much to do all day. So rather than spend the day in boredom, I would sleep as much as I could and wake up late (sounds fair, right?). So, that morning, I woke up late like every other normal day and the first thing I did was reach for my phone. I had just had my surgery few weeks before then and I remember I was still a little bit weak at the time. Right there, laying in bed feebly, I turned on my Samsung Galaxy Grand 19028 Duos android phone (which had a broken screen at the time) and slowly went through it. As usual, I went through my phone, checking for missed calls and text messages before turning on my data connection to check out my whatsapp messages.

As I replied my direct messages, I began to chat with one of my very close friends, on whatsapp, who during the conversation informed me that he had been going through my steemit blog earlier that morning and had seen that one of my posts had made about $90 dollars. I really took this for a joke because I felt, "How would someone like me earn that much?". After all, I was hardly a whale and I scarcely had up to 500 followers on the time. I had been dishing out quality content for months after joining steemit in August but I had never had any post payout rise above $15 and I had a few of my posts which made as low as $0.00 (yes it was that bad!). At that point I was almost giving up on steemit because I was starting to think I had been lied to all along by @tojukaka who had invited me to steemit telling me it was a great community. It was starting to seem my voice was worth NOTHING (Definitely not something). . . lol.

In order to convince me that he was not lying or playing a prank on me, my friend sent me a screenshot he had taken of the post. I was shocked and immediately got off my bed. But I still couldn't believe what my eyes were seeing. I kept thing he had perhaps doctored the picture and so I went ahead to check things out for myself. I quickly pressed the back button on my phone and began to search for the chrome browser on my phone. I remember my phone fell down in the process and the screen cracked even more (but at the moment I couldn't care less about the stupid phone anyway). I picked the phone right back up and opened my steemit blog and like magic, I saw it!

I had made over 90 freaking dollars on a single post and for the first and only time in steemit journey, my post was on the trending page for the #fiction. I was really ecstatic. It was honestly a truly beautiful feeling. It made me feel like my voice was worth something and it really renewed my believe in steemit. I remember that thanks to that curie upvote, the post had so much visibility and comments came reeling in. In fact, more upvotes came in and the post paid out at about $123.

It is not an experience I think I can forget so easily because that curie upvote went a long way in shaping the steemian I am today. It renewed my believe in steemit and it is one of the reasons why I remain on steemit till today. On a daily basis, I wake up and try to think of ideas to write quality content because I know that by doing this, I stand a chance of being curied. Thus, curie is my motivation to create quality content as I would rather not post for a week than to post haphazard and non-quality post. So in many ways, curie is my drive.
