Hello Tasteemers! (and a special hello to Siamcat)

Finally I'm on Tasteem! I've been promising to make a review for like ages, and took up some time to visit one of my favorite restaurant ever in Strasbourg.

"La Rizière" Story.

La Rizière means " rice field". It was named like this because the boss of this restaurant just wanted to remind her customers about her own roots, she is from Vietnam and in Vietnam you can find lots of rice fields and also rice is part of the vietnamese food culture.

La Rizière inaugurated last march after two months of rebuilding and reworking the interior design. It was actually a butchery so lots of work had to be done before opening the restaurant!

This restaurant was born after a sister (the boss) and her little brother (the waiter) wanted to work on a project together. Since then the brother has left the team though.

The Menu

The cover of the menu that I especially like. I mean I just like the fact that the cover isn't just plain but instead it has the logo and the design of La Rizière. By the way you can see how details the design is.

It's not a wild menu with thousands of dishes but I like it better because it definitely means that the Chef knows all of his dishes very well and he is used to make them , like he is used to make the same dishes many many times.

The only thing I don't like about this menu is the fact that in reality there is no dessert. You can come one day and they will have dessert but the next day they won't have any dessert, which is why on the menu it is written "dessert du jour" , it means dessert of the day...but they don't actually have a dessert of the day. (Too bad!)

So as you can see they have:

• 2 kind of appetizers (I usually don't take any appetizers when I go there)
• 4 salads and 1 spring roll, Salad in Summer ow yeah! I tried their salad many times this Summer and it's just deliciously delicious. It makes you wish that Summer would last longer...
• 8 main dishes. So they have 2 kids of Vietnamese soup, one is the famous Pho and the other is the 5 perfumes soup. The Pho is only available on Saturday, which is a shame because french people are in love with Pho, as for the other one it's available from Monday to Friday.
• They also have 6 Banh Mi (Sandwiches). The sandwich is only available for lunch, if they still have bread for the dinner they will sell sandwich also but you will have more chances to get a sandwich on Saturday night because during the week students from the different schools in the neighborhood are craving for those Banh Mi and they would basically buy all the sandwiches available for the lunch.

One Spring Roll for the start. I'm usually not a huge fan of Spring Roll in restaurant, but this one is OK, not the ultimate best one but it's good enough.

So this is the famous BO BUN !
It's like the hottest trend right now in France. Just only in Strasbourg you can find 5 places that sell Bo Bun!
What is a Bo Bun?
It is composed of rice noodles, beef meat in a special sauce, salad, carots, cucumber, nem (porc or vegetarian) and a side sauce (fish sauce).
In the photo it's the big bowl, but at La Rizière a small one is actually already a very good portion it should be enough for a meal, but for the sake of Tasteem Review I took the big one, and I can tell you that I've regretted at end haha!

Bee Zen is produced locally. It a beverage that is produced directly in Strasbourg. You can never find Bee Zen in a supermarket even in Strasbourg they only sell it in the restaurants in Strasbourg. It has the taste of peach and it's a sparkling beverage. So it is said that by drinking Bee Zen you should "be Zen".

I'm just part of the team "people-who-need-coffee-at-the-end-of-a-meal". Seriously I LOVE Coffee, and been drinking coffee a lot, but the coffee at La Rizière has an incredible taste, like seriously I'm not kidding! I could just go there for the Coffee haha!

La Rizière MOOD

One Word: Awkward.

I love this restaurant but the mood of this place is just completely awkward. There is no music and almost no sound. People are afraid to talk because it resonates a lot so customers are whispering which I find not good at all.

Design

It's the only Vietnamese restaurant in Strasbourg who cares about the design. It's not "cliché" and it's actually cosy, with a very small vietnamese touch.
And the lights...I like this lighting in this restaurant, not too bright, not too dark although in my pictures it seems a little bit dark/orange.

So the drawing here was made by a local artist.

Other than the card menu they also have one on the wall, it is especilly for lunch, lots of people take away, I find this completely practical and it reminds of the menu in the Restaurants in Vietnam.

The boss on the left! She is very welcoming and never hesitate to chat with her customers a little bit which I actually like.

The restaurant can welcomed around 30 people max. It is actually a restaurant in which you come sit, eat, leave but most of the time people sit there for like hours.
The service is fast and the waiter/waitress are all smiling.

• Monday: 11h30-14h30 not open for dinner
• Tuesday: 11h30-14h30 not open for dinner
• Wednesday: 11h30-14h30 and 18h30-22h
• Thursday: 11h30-14h30 and 18h30-22h
• Friday: 11h30-14h30 and 18h30-22h
• Saturday: 11h30-14h30 and 18h30-22h
• Sunday: not open at all

As for the bill: I never take the bill and this time as well but if my memory is correct I paid around 18 euros, the coffee was free for me as I'm a regular customer hehe!
By the way, they have an impressive customer service, lots of free stuff if you are a regular customer!
