A Year 0 for All of Humanity

Im not smack talking Pope Gregory XIII, let me explain. In terms of the maths and functionality, the Gregorian Calendar is a great calendar. The damn thing was quite revolutionary back in its day so I want to give credit where credit is due. Although the praise should really be going to Italian scientist Aloysus Lilius who developed the system and handed it to Pope Gregory to unveil in 1582. For those who didn't know what our current 2018 calendar was called, its the Gregorian

So whats wrong with what we got?

At the moment we have a calendar which revolves around the birth of one guy, cool so I know that Jesus is 2018 years old. This calendar is forever a reminder that it really only serves Christianity. Slightly harsh I know. But proportionally speaking religion is on the decline globally, and larger amounts of people just don't resonate with any type of religion.

Anyhoo a little of track, but like I said earlier the maths is sound and it has been serving us for a decent amount of time now. The problem is more the start date and how that distorts history. Coincidentally, 10,000 years before our current calendar starts, humans kicked off the 'Human Era' with its first construction project. The great thing about this number is that in order to change our current Gregorian calendar to one that aligns with the Human Era all we would have to do is add a 1 to the front of 2018. Living in the year 12,018 means we would still have familiarity with our current calendar and don't have to change our well established days and months. But for all official purposes living in the year 12,018 will give us all a calendar we can all resonate with as it starts on the year where human history itself was born.

A new history for humanity

I didn't intend for this post to be a history lecture but lets have a quick glance at our new Human Era calendar as it drastically changes the way we think and how we feel about our timeline. At around year '0' the first construction projects by humans began who started building bigger and more robust settlements. Progress was very slow in those early years and only around the year 1000 of the Human Era, the first city was built, Jericho. Which by the way is still the longest continuously inhabited city in the world.

By the year 2000 more and more plants and animals became domesticated and smaller outer cities began to grow. Evidence of human trade over thousands of kilometres has been recorded over this period, where the current global population hit 5 million.

By the year 3000 cultural communities in China and India had developed and pottery became a widespread tool. Around the year 4000 the bronze age kicked-off with Humans using and mixing metals for the first time. The year 5000 was saw the invention of the wheel and prototype writing emerged.

By year 7000 the first high cultures such as the ancient Egyptians and the Minnoans in Greece started emerging. Around the year 9500 what we know as western culture began which also triggered the golden era. Caesar was murdered in the year 9956 and the world population had grown to 300 million.

It is only at this point at which the Gregorian calendar and our current method of marking human history begins. For obvious reasons I only included a snippet of history in this post but you can start to see how much we can simplify and better understand our history if we adapted our current calendar to include 10,000 years of human achievement before the birth of Jesus. I want to give credit to Kurzgesagt, from which I got most of the facts for this post. If you enjoyed this post I would highly recommend checking out their video on this subject which I will leave here:

For all those religious folk who got all the way down here reading this and are just seething in there seats. I want you to remember I'm not trying to bash your beliefs but just remember, that you don't believe in 100 different religions and I don't believe in just 1 more.

It would be great if a science community such as @steemstem would adopt such a progressive move and encourage their authors to publish posts using the new 'Human Era' calendar that serves all of us. But really the whole steem blockchain could be a part of it. Why not? Im going to start using and references this calendar and so can anyone else who likes it and believes it is a good idea. hi @bengiles

my only suggestion is to make some spaces (enter) in your text. it's really hard to read when it's all glued together.

Just a small advice,
Yours
