New Firefox Quantum is Faster and Just Crap to Use

in #zappl7 years ago

My Firefox upgraded to Quantum yesterday. It's faster version removed my quality addons with no replacements. I have rolled back to ver. 56 and will never upgrade again. Quantum is POS Mozilla.

Sort:

I like Opera myself. I was at one time a very loyal user of of Mozilla Firefox.

the addons I use are colorful tabs which change the colours of the tabs and makes finding stuff easier. The other one is Tab Mix Plus which is a great session manager and let me change a lot of the ways FF operates. That kept me loyal to FF. This new one is very lame when it comes to managing tabs which is the heart of using a browser these days.

I have heard a few others mention Opera. Might have a look at it yet.

Opera and chrome are where it's at... I tend to keep stuff I don't need a lot in firefox

I'll use Chrome for my main Steemit account but am not inclined to make it my default browser. I'll stick to the previous version of FF and just block any upgrades.

I'm in the same boat.

But I have changed the way I look at things and now learned new things:

  • there are security containers that protect your privacy and you can mark content based on your preferences. Put Google, Facebook, Twitter and other ad supported platforms into spy&ads container and all the other stuff in finances, interests, etc. Every time you access them you are not linked with your google searches or interests, so they can not sell your. Your cookies and sessions are not cross-linked between spy-ad related resources and valuable or premium resources.
  • Multi-Account Containers and Sea containers will help you colorize your tabs and make them vertical (a temporary solution while they fix addons)

I've programmed, and worked on various things.

It irritates me to no end when an interface is changed, with no way to revert if you wanted to. Its like having someone order for you at a restaurant, while you sit there fuming at the choices.

Firefox has been nagging me to "upgrade", which I never do until I see the responses. Seeing the firestorm over add-ons getting nuked AGAIN, I'm not upgrading.

I use a variety of them, one that I really like changes the colors of websites so I don't blind myself when navigating sites late at night. (Who thought mimicing paper with black text on white backgrounds made sense anyway - its a skeumorphism that is ridiculous.)

I just refuse to be on that treadmill.

And the thing that is most irritating - they COULD give you a way to revert back to what you want it to look like, but they just didn't.

They can take a running leap off the nearest cliff, as far as I'm concerned.

I tend to agree @talltim ... reinstalling version 56 went really well which I was happy with and i've turned upgrades off so it wont drag me there again.

sometimes that's what happens when you upgrade to newer versions and I wonder why it happens that way

when they do a rework like that something has to give. Unfortunately too much had to give for my taste so back i went to the previous. From the comments on their FB page.. so did a lot of people.

I was happy myself. with a slow laptop and internet speeds I'm running twice as fast as before. feels like a new machine. But I had no addons to be messed with.
Glad your roll back went well :-)
Cheers

well it initially did and then it suddenly reverted to the new one. I uninstalled this time and made sure the maintenance feature was turned off.. so far so good.

I had some of those issues and I still have some addons I miss.

What addons do you miss?

I was able to put tab on bottom and also roomy bookmark with css.

I miss parent folder that would take you to the folder a bookmark as been put in. Show parent folder which would show the name of the folder.

Fastest fox. You should search that one if you don't already use it.

FEBE and a couple others.

The speed is so much better though. I'm glad to know I wasn't the only preferring Firefox over Chrome and I was seriously considering not updating too.

The two main plugins I really like are Colorful Tabs which allows me to have different coloured tabs depending on the site I'm on .. makes the multitude of tabs I usually have open easy to navigate.

The other was Tab Mixed Plus which had some fantastic features not the least of which was being able to close the browser and restore my session when I reopened (which is native to both Chrome and Edge with a setting turned on) .. multiple lines of tabs with a set number of rows displayed at a time and some nice customizing features. I have them back now.
