VOTES

YOUR VOTE YOUR VOICE

tecnogril.jpg

INTRODUCTION

Have you ever asked yourself Why will you vote for other content? what happens if you don't vote at all? Or if no one does? How about if only one person votes on a day? Will this affect Steemit system? Will this affect the reward pool?

There are many reasons why you should be using your vote, curation, helping others and yourself, does not only indicate which post is being promoted to the hot or trending page it is also beneficial for your account rep (if a vote comes from a higher rep user) moreover this is your voice. This might as beneficial as posting, it makes little sense to go without posting and voting in steemit, the platform is indeed a business yet a fun place to be.

About Votes

For instance, while many people differ on how and how frequently you should be using your voting power, they all agree that voting is beneficial for you as well as the community. There are many things that will go connected to how many votes you should be giving, as older and bigger user have access to a slider that allow them to up vote more times at different percentage, however as a new user or minnow you should look at voting from a different perspective. While looking for answers I was able to get some answers from some people who have more experience and time on the platform than me: "If no one votes, the reward pool remains unclaimed" "There is a X among steem that must be distributed everyday" "If only one person votes that vote will have the value of the whole amount of steem of that day" "If no one votes not only it remains unclaimed but goes out to spammers and bots" .

For example, your vote will have a value that might go from 0.01 cent to 0.9 cents and for whales (older/bigger users that have more SP and VP) it can to 20 dollars or more, this might change according to how many users voted that day, the active whales and other internal factor connected to it. There are other ways to increase the value of your votes, I will not address those today. There is a place you can visit to check your voting power www.steemd.com/@writeyourusernamehere .

Steem power this one influences your curation rewards and Voting power as its name says the power you have per vote, which the second one will start at 100% and go decreasing as you use it, however this will later recharge and go back to 100% depending on how low is in 24 hours or a few days, monitor so that your vote won't go lower than 60%. It is important to vote early on post however this also depends, the votes you receive and the votes you give have a different purpose. "So the most optimal strategy is to constantly monitor how many votes and how much rewards the post has." According to busy.org/steemit

Besides there are other topics on voting, like self-vote and buying votes, but I think is rather personal, will it hurt a new user to only vote himself, this also might differ however if your vote is little and you are only giving that to yourself, and not connecting with others users, I don't recommend this approach. I am personally against self-vote in some cases, even if your account can afford higher votes. Promoting your post and making your comments visible might be in those cases, taking in consideration that spam is or random comments have little to no reason to be highlighted.

Therefore, posting "wow" then up-voting yourself will only bring down votes. Which is something new users that only possess a (25) reputation shouldn't be using, they should be focusing in increasing their rep instead of using down votes against others. Although talking to the person you had problems or ask for someone else to help might be the solution, I don't think attacking someone because they have a different opinion/ point of view is a mature thing to do.

On the other hand, voting for witness is another important topic, which later will be addressed in another post as well as post payouts will be after 7 days, this will be explained in a later post, but you can search for information online.

Last the value of your blog is not only the amount of money / steem you have, but the importance and what does it means for you, and the vote you will receive will be given according to your content, quality, value and what other people can gain from it. (knowledge, money, tool, entrainment, etc). If you want people to see your blog like this you should consider these things also before voting for someone, giving a vote to someone who copies or makes up fake news is supporting their ideas and actions.

Disclaimer this post is written for new users on the best of my ability to make it clear and easy, however I am open to change anything that I have been said that is not complete and might contradict steemit real functions. I have to say that I also have used my personal opinions in some of the points seen above, you might think differently. The reason of these post series is to motivate new users to use their votes, research and be open to discussions about steemit. Support new projects and original and innovative content. The more we know about the platform the better usage we can give to it. Learning is a never ending process and sometimes we learn from people we never though we will.

Nice addition to the archive!

I think you did a great job kind of "itemizing" different areas of question regarding voting, and explaining them in an easy to understand way.

I'll update my post to include a link to yours so we can continue to compile these types of posts. Possibly we can create an index to sort them in and have them available to be searched and all found in the same place.

Up-Yunked.

Great idea!

You have removed several doubts, I hope you continue to publish more information, I would like to learn more !! Thank you

I am glad this has helped you @milagros :)

Thanks @atopy for reading and reesteming

Really helpful. I tend to have the opposite problem of over-voting! My voting power is always so low, then I have to wait days for it to refill! It's gonna be great when I can actually award someone more than a penny a vote!

I think @tecnosgirl post will help you @catonwheels she mentions overvote on her post maybe you would like to give it a look.

I think it's fantastic what you guys are doing here!!! Us minnows don't always know and articles such as these Really are helpful!!! Gg, looking forward to what's to follow :):)

Thanks for reading :D
