Saw the movie. Freaked me out how things go in America, a difference to Europe but still, meat and animal products aren't necessary for our health. Vegetables, especially the green ones 😊

Your research is always done so well and with great passion! Kind of makes me want to ween of eggs ;) Maybe one day if circumstances permit I'd try going vegan ;)

First it was meat that was going to kill us all with a collective heart attack. Next we weren't supposed to have butter because one pat too many on those pancakes and you might as well plunge your fork into your own heart before excusing yourself from the table! So, no butter on those pancakes! After that, we turned towards margarine to quell our desire for congealed cow fat. Not so fast. Turns out, every scoop of that faux butter goodness might well be a shovel of dirt from your grave! Trans fats became the bane of civilization, and the latest "buzzword" no one had ever heard of.

None of this matters anyway since carbs soon came to the forefront as the new culinary cyanide! Okay, no carbs. But hey, now we were told truck loads of meat and fats would make us sexy! We felt vindicated when "experts" on all the talk shows assured us that there were no longer limits on how many burgers we were allowed to eat. But God help you if those meat disks come on a bun with a side of fries. Death would surely follow!

The list of deadly poisons masquerading as common fare grew over time. Chicken had hormones, fish contains mercury, and even gmo vegetables would turn our bodily temples into slowly decaying incubators for disease and misery!

The so-called health gurus didn't stop there. Just when we thought we could enjoy a meal without jotting down our last will and testament on the place mat, the shocker of shocks came to us straight from the top. Wheat.... the staple culinary foundation that has transcended geography, culture, color, or creed for the the entirety of human history would cause us all to spontaneously purge our bowels through the small of our backs if we dared to eat that raisin bran!

It was inevitable that eggs would have their day of reckoning. My question is; has anyone ever stopped to wonder why everything that used to be called nutritious is poisonous all of the sudden? Also, how is it that human life expectancy keeps on rising? I say we should all just relax and be grateful that it was once upon a time in the west, when the surest way for our food to kill us was when we didn't have any of it!

Well first of all... I stopped eating meat and I no longer get stomachaches, Tiredness, Feeling like I'm going to barf in the mornings, Lost a lot of weight, had a ton more energy than I ever had, the list goes on. I am not going to sit here and argue with you, but really everyone has their own diet... If you don't want to hear advice then don't read it...

Would you like to provide a study of human life expectancy rising and perhaps from what cause?

Whatever the cause, it's not from lack of meat.

You are 100% free to do as you wish and eat as you wish. This is only information, what you do with it is up to you. Read The China Study it will prove a lot to you. Sadly most of these grievances you have listed you most likely have only listened to the TV and heard it from a news anchor. Perhaps I'm wrong, but look where the funding of the study came from, and most likely you will see it came from either big phrama, dairy and egg board, or some form of the animal agricultural industries which have lost of money and huge pull. Do you think huge industries that have big money invested want to decrease their profit by telling the truth? I doubt it. Take some time and do some unbiased research you might realize that what you're eating IS KILLING YOU. I grew up with a dairy farm, being taught that butter, milk, and eggs were good for you, now I cannot say that I think the same way since I've been finding a lot of research out there that points towards the complete opposite. Cancer is not something that is normal until you start feeding it with bad processed things. There are some studies out there that PROVE a whole food plant-based diet can improve or totally reverse heart disease and diabetes. Those are REAL results in every day people who accrued disease because of their diet and environment. If one "diet", referring to more of a natural whole food plant-based diet can work for everyone why isn't it worth a shot? Plus it doesn't involve killing innocent animals, so I find it a win-win. I honestly just wish to inform people of what I have learned and found to work, again you are free to do what you wish with it. Peace be with you.

I'm not trying to get political, and I'm not trying to debate or troll. I'm just going to throw something out there that just came to mind. See, I have no problem using animals for food and goods. I do have a problem with killing animals for no purpose than to boost the bottom line. So, I have a serious problem with the "disposal" of male chicks within the egg farming industry. I'd like to see that practice halted as much as anyone. Here's the controversial part that is meant as food for thought only:

How can anyone take seriously saving the lives of "useless" chickens, while a large percentage of western citizens still believe that abortion on demand is, not only their right, but something to be considered good?

How can we say: "babies are inconvenient and costly, therefore I have the right to kill them."

followed by: "Just because these animals are inconvenient and costly does not give you the right to kill them!"

If that's not skewed logic then I woke up in an alternate dimension of pure chaos this morning.

Thanks for taking the time to view some material and write about your side of the spectrum. I'm glad your grandparents were able to eat many things that did not have a negative impact on their health. I cannot say the same for my family. I grew up with a similar type of family with a dairy farm where my grandmother cooked with animal (bacon) grease (never wasting it - she would even add into the dog's food), cooked fried bologna sandwiches, and then to the polar opposite to having the traditional Polish meals. I saw the health impacts it had on my family. She suffered terribly for many years before she recently passed away. It was so devastating and painful to watch her not be able to help herself when she could have changed her eating habits but never did. My grandfather recently suffered from not only his first stroke but is recovering from a massive stroke, along with other heart diseases. Not to mention both had heart-attacks. I can attest to you that they, along with others in my family have been the reason for the changes I want to make within myself. I don't believe it is all "genetic" based because a few years ago eating a more whole-food plant-based diet I was able to heal my own body from issues that were making me ill. I have seen countless times where people who changed what they were eating essentially healed themselves and were able to get off of the prescription drugs (which I thought was fantastic because now they are able to live a better life of being able to THRIVE instead of just getting by). I have been digging through studies and research when I can and I keep seeing these links to what they used to eat (some who are alive still do) and the negative impact of disease running rampant through their bodies. So bottom line is - all I can do is be the change I want to see, and with being that change I hope I can inspire others to do better for themselves and their loved ones so they can thrive. Not only that but change needs to occur on the Earth as a whole because our rate of consumption is doing more harm than good to the environment and animals.

Again, we are all free to do what we would choose to do as of these moments in time. I hope you were able to learn something as you have also given me some other perspectives. I hope we can both be a positive change for this world, one step/day at a time. Peace be with you!

I'm sorry to hear about the health problems your grandmother suffered. It's like I said before, moderation. If all you eat is meat and potatoes, it will probably result in the issues you mentioned. Italian food (and Mediterranean food in general) is quite healthy. It's mostly vegetables and fish in Italy. Not so in America, but olive oil and garlic are mainstays wherever Italian food is prepared. So it's going to be healthy to some degree (even with all the bread).

That is horrible

I'm a Le Cordon Bleu graduate. I've been a chef for over thirty years. I know food...period. Part of the curriculum in school was meat fabrication. In this class we watched videos that showed and explained in great detail how the animals are processed from transportation to slaughter, to the packing plants. The two main concerns of the slaughterhouses are sanitation and keeping the animals calm. Fear can cause the animal to lose up to 25% of it's usable weight, so it is rendered unconscious and never sees it coming. It's very humane, and every single part of the animal is used. Nothing is thrown away, not even the blood which is used to make fish food.

Also, I live in the heartland, and if there are sadistic farmers who take pleasure in abusing their livestock, I've never met one. Stressed animals produce less, so abusing them is bad for the bottom line. I also have many children, and I can tell you from experience that the life of a chicken means less than zero compared to the life of a child. I will say in absolute terms that abusing animals to satisfy some sadistic desire is unacceptable, but it's rare among farmers (that I've experienced). As long as the process is humane, there is nothing unethical about using animals for our benefit. They are not human. They have no capacity to reason why they are where they are, and neither can they imagine or long for a different life. So relax and enjoy some steak and eggs once in a while. Too much of anything is no good for you. All things in moderation.

I ask you to challenge yourself and take the time to watch this speech, you can skip about a minute into it to get to the speech if needed:

I make it a point to challenge myself by studying opposing views so of course I'll watch it. I'll be very disappointed if it turns out to be just another passionate appeal to emotion from a person with a disordered sense that somehow the lives of animals are equal to the lives of humans. I'm also very familiar with PETA videos that use 50 year old films from before regulations were in place with the intent of (again) evoking and emotional response rather than present the whole truth.

Oh, and I never mentioned that I love animals and have always had pets that were well loved and cared for.

Fair enough. I will soon provide you with a few other videos when I get a chance to find them that are more science-backed. :)

I appreciate the notion. Understand, however that my family is of southern Italian decent. We had pasta, and one or the other of beef, veal, pork, or chicken with almost every meal! Grandma used only lard for frying, and there was bread. Many, many loaves of bread. That didn't stop my grands from living well into 90's.

I appreciate the fact that we can discuss this as information fairly rationally. I thank you for that. I will provide a few videos...there is a lot out there with studies (I am not going to dig them all out) but they are there. The reason I use "Mic the Vegan" because he includes the actual studies in his videos. I can possibly get more later, but here are a few.

Thanks for taking the time to post these videos. It certainly does pay to watch what we put into our bodies. Just like nurses are known to have some of the worst health habits, chefs often have some of the worst diets. Many times it's because by the time we're finished feeding everyone else it's late, and the only thing open on the way home is fast food!

I also know food, and the basic history of how we came to understand the procedures and combinations that we enjoy today. It has always been about temperance. Again, my grandparents on both sides ate everything under the sun that's supposed to be killing us. Well, they all lived well into their 90s. I knew a vegan girl who suffered renal failure and had a transplant. It doesn't take a phd in physiology to understand that too much of anything can harm our bodies.

I'm glad you noticed that I'm not hostile towards the vegan diet. I love talking food, and vegan cuisine is the most challenging due to the limited scope of usable ingredients. Personally, I lean towards vegetarianism, except I have no problem eating red meat and pork. Maybe I'll start a new fad diet called the inverse lent veganimal diet! It's where you eat all vegetarian throughout the week with the exception of three meals that can have poultry or fish. But on Fridays, one meal with red meat or pork is permitted. Every Sunday is vegan only. That sounds like the best of all worlds, no? If any extreme diet went up against this more moderate diet, I'd bet on moderation every time. It always seems to win in the end.

I forgot to mention, that Gary Yourofsky speech inspired me to start creating a detailed post concerning his language and methods. If you truly believe that veganism is the way to go, I applaude you for speaking out what you believe. I would also warn you to abandon Yourofsky and those of like mind. People like him may be able to dupe college aged kids who never knew their food wasn't grown at the grocery store, but anyone wise to his tactics know that said tactics are used only when the information is vapid and unverifiable. Essentially, he's merely an evangelical preacher with a different set of scriptures. And just to define terms (which he never does in the video you showed me), I memed Yoursofsky and my fifth child:
kid kid.jpg
This is not up for debate. I respectfully check my watch and excuse myself from any conversation once someone tries to say that my cat's life and my children's lives are of equal value. Anyone who would attempt to defend this point is either ignorant, unreasonable, or just plain stupid, and those happen to be the only types of people that I refuse to argue with. This speciesist shtick is objectively wrong, and Yourofsky knows it. That's why he has to use emotional appeal and shock value to make an impression. We can all agree that livestock should not be unnecessarily harmed or intentionally tortured. But trying to convince people that a cow chopped up in their burger is equally tragic as their baby chopped up for a burger is counter productive to your cause. Be blessed on your journey, friend

I started the video and was preparing a commentary while it was playing. I realized somewhere around "speciesist" and "rape" pertaining to animals (which have no dignity to violate) that my thoughtful, rational response will only be a waste of my life (which actually is precious). It would be a waste because the intended audience does not exist in the realm of reality. So I am just going to put this clown's video up as a post of it's own and explain everything that is wrong with his entire argument in great detail.

I hope you never have kids. I'd hate to read about how a family died in a house fire because the vegan parents couldn't decide whether to save the kids or the pets first.

Good luck.

This sucks, I love eggs!!!

So eat eggs a couple eggs a couple times a week. Anything will kill you if you gorge yourself with truckloads of it everyday!
