Who To Follow (WTF!) - Why you should upvote, resteem and comment

in #wtf7 years ago

Today I want to emphasize the importance of your actions on Steemit. Upvoting - Resteeming and Commenting.

Upvoting

Let's start with the most obvious one; Upvoting. You might have different reasons to upvote something and therefore your upvoting behavious might change from time to time. When you first start on Steemit you've probably heard about earning rewards by upvoting posts that are trending. These rewards are called curation rewards and for a newbie it can be very appealing to upvote posts that you know will go trending.

So you scoop the trending page, write down the names that appear all the time and start upvoting as soon as they post something. Now you wait, seven days to be precise, as you continue to do this day by day for the first seven days. Until your first pay-out occurs. You hope to find a big fat curation reward but in fact all you get is at most 0.001 Steempower. And that 3 to 4 times a day. All your other votes are seemingly not rewarded. __That is because you vote has not enough power to compete with anyone really. Basically everybody that votes on those posts have more power than you have and thus will reap the rewards right before your nose.

By the 10th day you decide this is nothing for you and you find that there are other people on Steemit too. You meet new people in the chat or Discord and together you start to upvote eachother. Soon one or two join in which in return bring a few more in. Now you see the upvotes you get rise but the rewards still stay at a below 1SBD level. You gathered other newbies in your little upvoting group which results in still no remarkable increase of your pay-outs.

You research and figure out that it all has to do with the rewardpool. A lot of nothing is still nothing and even if you by chance get hit by someone with more power you'll see the rewards melt down right before your desperate eyes. You realize that there is still a lot to learn and a long road ahead when it comes down to raising your post rewards.

What you don't realise is that your vote can be powerful and rewarding. You just have to use it wisely. Vote on posts that have a certain potential. Also, vote on those posts preferably as close to the half hour after posting as possible. Try to be within those first dozen of votes. All easy when explained but do you have the time or the knowledge to upvote just those posts that will make it big? I can help you with that because I know exactly which posts will make it big.

All you have to do is follow my trail at Streemian - Services - Curation Trail - "Cem" (Page 3)

My knowledge comes from the fact that I, among several others, curate for @OCD. And by following my trail you will upvote posts that will make it big a few hours after I have upvoted for them. By following the trail you will upvote anything I will vote on. The result will be that you will get curation rewards for almost every posts we upvote and that you thus will continue to grow at a certain rate. Also, your vote will be very appreciated by the authors we upvote.

Resteeming

If you have started upvoting without any serious curation rewards and you tried the method to upvote content that has not yet been hit by the masses you seriously want to consider resteeming that post.

By Resteeming you will reach two things:

  1. The grattitude of the author you just resteemed. You know it yourself that having a post of yours resteemed is incredibly flattering so why don't you pay it forward to others? This might even result in a good relationship in the future. And who knows where the person you just resteemed will be? He might become a whale or be very influential after all. And maybe he will never forget what you have done for him.

  2. The fact that you upvoted a post you liked that might result in good curation rewards doesn't mean your there yet. If the post just sits there with your upvote and goes nowhere except down you just lost a valuable upvote. To counter this you should resteem the post you like because by resteeming you share this post directly to your followers and eventually it might get picked up by the masses. And when that happens you hit the curational jackpot. And of course will have served the author well. Therefore my advice: Resteem posts you have upvoted so that they can reach more people with the risk of getting more upvotes.

I don't have to tell you that having a decent group of real followers will bring you more results in the end. So there you have your answer on why you should do "Follow/Unfollow". No quality that will totally do you no good. Heck I've seen people with 4000 followers reaching barely a dollar in rewards on their posts. Talk about quantity! Go for quality instead!

Commenting

Commenting may be harder than posting because you'll have to interact with the community. And we all are different. Some can value a good joke while others want you to be serious like them. I too have had some people seriously pissed about me contacting them via comments and even got some downvotes in the process. There is no way to know upfront so you really have to dive in. The result may be quite positive however. In my opinion you'll gain more than you might loose.

  1. Commenting is one of the best ways to get attention from others. Just make sure you don't spam comment anyone. "Good post" or "Lovely profile" just wont suffice. Interact like you would interact with a real person. Remember, the goal is building long term realtionships and not short term money making. It wont work. Just tell them genuinly how you felt about their post. Talk about having the same interest and share ideas. I'm pretty sure this will result in new follower, they might even upvote your latest post after visiting your profile!

  2. Remember that bigger fish are swimming this Steemit Ocean too. And they comment like anyone else. The only thing is; they occasionaly upvote comments they like which will result in some 10 SBD+ worth on upvotes. On a comment! Heck, in my first weeks I made more with my comments than I made with posting! And you might get there too. Just don't go looking for those bigger fish or they will devoure your precious little comment.

  3. Commenting means you are active. And for a lot of people activity is key in wheter to follow someone or not. And if you are not very active you might loose a few interested followers. I work like that too, if I see someone posting only once a week the account is just not very interesting to me. They might get an upvote or resteem anyway f the content is good but it might not be enough to get me as a follower.

Key to commenting in my opinion: Be genuine. If you are not eventually we will find out and that might turn out to be very bad for you in the long run. Powerful people can make you break you and with a few downvotes from key players you are broken in no time

Who To Follow

Another list filled with great accounts. Make sure to check them out, maybe even say hello to a few. If you look carefully you might even see that they practive some of the tips I just gave you!

quinn.png
@quinneaker Very active member of Steem society. Posts about photography, music and basically the good things in life. Als a curator of some sorts as he has his "Quinn's Quality Content Curation". So keep posting the good stuff, get his attention and you might hit his QQCC one day! Fight's for your and his freedom.

charles1.png
@charles1 What a guy! Just over one month on Steemit and already has almost 1100 followers. Also his posts are pure quality and by looking at those rewards he will gain some momentum in a few weeks which will result in even higher rewards for him. Considering he joined around the same time I did he does an awesome job. Loves Steem just as much as I do.Kudos to Charles and may the force be with him!

norbu.png
@norbu The account is filled with high quality content. Not only the way Norbu writes but also the things he writes about. Very smart guy that knows how to write an article. Besides the more serious stuff you can also find some pictures and from the looks of it, he lives close to the Himalayas. Amazing an breathtaking!

Dan.png
@dan-atstarlite Great guy to follow really. Has some serious humor and is happy with the small things in life. Like his Vacuumcleaner working again :D Also found of Steemit-Health so this guy seriously deserves some attention from you! You'll get healthy by following him or Steemit-Health!

naq.png
@naquoya Great story writer who deserves a mention on today's Who To Follow. If you love horror and/or Scifi you will be following this account for sure! And don't forget to resteem now and then as the stories absolutely deserve the attention!

rea.png
@rea A great account that already gets a lot of sweet upvoting love. Nonetheless she deserve to be on today's WTF. The way she describes her visits to places all around makes you feel like you've been there with her. She talks you through her experiences and combines that with some great pictures. All you really miss is the taste of the icecream. You can imagine it but you will need to go there for yourself to truely taste it. She also can speak fluent Chinese which results in some parts of her posts being in Chinese. One to follow for sure!

OCD

I want to conclude today's WTF Daily with a special word for @OCD. If you are on Steemit and believe you have good quality content but feel it's underrated feel free to contact me or any of the @OCD teammembers. If you struggle with getting the right attention we might be able to help you out. If we find your post of high quality but you haven't gained any attention in the form of upvotes and rewards we will take your post into consideration. Internally we then will decide which posts will make it to the daily top 5.

We search for Gems that are forgotten and we feel deserve extra attention.

Also I have followed some of your reommendations already... I really like what you are doing here, keep up that good work Cem. I would like to follow your curation trail but I think streemian is having some issues. I was not able to fully activate my account due that. Well, hope to read you soon again. Bye,
