Your Elevation May Require Your Isolation

in #writing6 years ago

When was the last time you're in silence, stillness and solitude?

Elevation in this context is your personal growth.
Isolation is silence, stillness and solitude.

Why Isolation is vital for your Elevation?

In our busy lives, it's very easy for us to be busy around the wrong things. You are busy chatting with your co-workers at the water cooler, you are busy replying and clearing your emails, you are busy meeting people all day long, you are busy scrolling through your Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, you are busy watching TV, you are busy being busy.

Sometimes it takes just 15 minutes a day of silence, stillness and solitude for you to realize that you've been busy around the wrong things. For you to realize you can be better and improve yourself in various areas in your life.

Distraction keeps you away from yourself.

Know that you need isolation to realize what's happening in your life, what are you getting out of your life and how can you elevate higher than yesterday.

How to isolate in order to elevate?

Method 1: Private Reflection

Invest 2% of your time (30 minutes out of 1440 mins) to isolate yourself and reflect on your daily life. Asking yourselves questions is one of the simplest and most powerful tool to grow,

10 questions to get you started,

  • am I using my time wisely?
  • am I taking anything for granted?
  • am I seeing things positively?
  • am I living try to myself?
  • am I waking up every morning, ready to take on the day?
  • am I thinking negative thoughts before I sleep?
  • am I putting enough effort into my relationships?
  • am I taking care of myself physically?
  • am I letting matters that are out of my control stress me out?
  • am I achieving the goals I've set for myself?

After answering Yes or No, think of your Why's like why is it a yes, why is it a no. Ask why 2-3 times more. Go deeper and deeper to the inner you. You may find something new about yourself.

Method 2: Cave in

I learned this method from @timlee's coaching session.

Invest 4% of your time to cave in or collapse into your negative emotions.

Find a safe space where you can sit comfortably. Make sure there's no one around you within 1 arms length. Then start, caving in.

Recall all of the events that made you feel negatively such as frustration, anger, sadness, anxiousness, nervousness, and hate. Let those emotions to flow, let them pass. Do not hold onto them. Say to them "Thank you" and let them go.

Continue recalling until 1 hour is up. Remember to set a timer, so that you'll get out of your state.

This method allows you to feel down as you wish. Once you get out of your cave, you do not let those negative emotions to drag you down and you continue taking on the day.

Personally, I do method 1, private reflection by asking myself powerful questions. Thanks to it, I achieved realization in a lot of things and I feel I am better than yesterday me. There're a lot of things that I look forward to, to learn.

What other methods do you use to elevate yourself? And why?

I personally use method 2 and usually before sleeping hour. My version of cave in not always let the emotion flow out, sometimes just recall what I had achieved on the day / past weeks / past month then I record it on my phone so that in future I can read back. :)

Oooh really?? Do you mind sharing them with me as well?

Haha, I will share with you when got chance! :)

Lol the next chance is this Sunday @@

just relax, keep it simple and be happy

What a smart post! I often find when I go for a walk by myself, without my phone or music, I take the time to reflect on my day; what went well, what didn't go so well, and why? I try not to do it before falling asleep because I find it difficult to shut my brain off and sleep :)

I like the idea of "cave in" too. We live in a world where we are taught that all negative emotions are bad, and we should just "cheer up", but there is value in feeling all of our emotions and analyzing them as well. I like the idea here of doing it for only one hour so as not to fall down a deep pit of depression and negativity too!

Thanks for a great post @tifaong, and thank you again for using my post on the "non-commenter" as well :)

Hi @lynncoyle1, sorry for the late reply. Thank you so much for reading!

Yeap, distractions are keeping us away from connecting to our cores. And when we connect, we discover something else.

You get my idea about "cave in"! Words like "Cheer up", "It's okay", "don't be sad" are subtle mind conditioning that shapes us to keep our feelings and never show it, which someday we'll explode. I like the way you said "feel and analyze", that's like being emotionally logical, or logically emotional :)

No problem, I want to play a part in shaping a good quality Steemit community too :)
