Creation of A Home: The Details

in #writing7 years ago (edited)

Hello and welcome to my blog- How to Play the Sims. If you are new, you can visit my blog and catch up by reading my previous posts. Follow me @simgirl to receive my newest posts in your Steemit feed.

If you missed the beginning of our building tutorial you can read it here: Rough Framing. In this post we will be finishing the house we are building for Sally Steemit. (Unless the Steemit community votes that she lives in the city.) We have not created Sally yet. Sally will be shaped by using the suggestions the Steemit community provides in the comments. If you would like to contribute to Sally’s formation, you can leave a comment on any of my posts @simgirl.

After the rough framing of the house is done, we will need to add the accents that will finish the house. Sims do not like living in a home that does not have wallpaper or paint on the walls. They also prefer carpet or some type of flooring. The nicer the home is, the more your Sim will enjoy living there. If the home is nicely decorated, they will receive a positive buff to increase their mood.

Wall

When you select the wall pattern icon from the house, it will open the tool which allows you to cover the walls with either paint, wallpaper, tile, or paneling. The fancier the design, or the better quality of materials, the more expensive it will be. Since we kept the costs of the building so low, we will indulge by buying the expensive paint.

Shift

Once you select the wall pattern, you can place it along the walls. It will show one row of the wall being covered with paint. If you hold the shift key, the entire room will be covered at one time. Left-click to apply this action to the room. It will also show you the price for the entire room. You can use the same wall pattern in every room, or you can decorate each room differently.

Wallsup

To get hard to reach walls, use the Walls Up View in the top right-hand corner of the building mode. This is also helpful to finish the outside walls.

Siding

Inside the wall patterns options, you will find your choice of outside wall covering. You can choose from brick, siding, or masonry. I chose an inexpensive siding to match the windows in blue and white. Don’t forget to do the siding on the roof too.

Floor

You do not need to cover the porches, but they look nicer if you do. If you choose a nice wood flooring for the porches you can give the house a tailored look. You can also find the carpeting, and flooring you will need to finish the floors inside the house in the same menu.

The last task to complete the house, is to finish the foundation by adding some brick or stone. By clicking on the foundation icon, you can choose the foundation you like and add it to the house. The outside wall covering, and the foundation doesn’t always cover the whole house in one click. You may need to spin the house around with the camera to be sure the entire house is covered.

Foundation

The more details you add, the fancier the house will be. You can put trim around the roof, or add a chimney. You may also decide to fence the lot around the house to give it a more charming feel. Be cautious about how much money you are spending though, because you will still need to fill this house with electricity, plumbing and appliances.

Total

I hope you have learned a little more from this post about creating a home in the Sims 4 game. The options are endless, and each expansion and stuff pack from the Sims 4 store will give you even more options for building and designing. If you can keep the price of the house below $20,000, you can move a new Sim into the home and still have a few bucks to spare.

In my next post I will explain what the house needs to be functional, and what your new Sims will need to live and meet their basic needs. I have drawn this process out between a few posts, but the building of a house will not take very long. The more houses you build, the faster it will be to build a house for your Sims when they need a new home. If you build a functional beginner home, be sure to save it to the gallery for others to use in the Sims 4 community.
