The 12-Mini-habits for Writing with a Holistic Point of View.


Mini-habit 1: Write down a list of 5 possible book titles. Just the titles nothing more.
Mini-habit 2: Create a character from an Archetype. A great book and you can probably find the list of Archetypes online is the "45 Master Characters." The next four archetypes are directly cited from a book. Book details below. The nine Hero archetypes cited from the book "45 Master Characters" are as follows:

Apollo: The Businessman A logical, focused team player who is good at planning and enjoys performing his duties (unemployment is death to him) but poor at dealing with chaotic forces (including emotions and relationships).

Ares: The Protector A physically oriented warrior who revels in competition and risk, defends his kin, and fears nothing anyone can do to him - except losing the ability to fully use his body (paralysis would be death to him).

Dionysus: The Woman's Man A fun-loving, sensual man who can't relate to masculine pastimes but revels in the company of women, who helps the women around him to find courage and realize their own worth - although the Dionysus himself often feels flawed and may never find the perfect woman he seeks.

Hades: The Recluse A sensitive introvert with a rich inner life, a dreamer and philosopher who shies from people (conformity is death to him); he might yearn for love or companionship but is at a loss as to how to get it.

You can also dive into Ancient greek mythology and use those characters by overlapping attributes and values.
Mini-habit 3: Take a walk today to another part of town or a different town. Take notes of a new setting for your story. Another way you can do this is google street maps by traveling to places you have never been to. Then take some digital snapshots for inspiration.
Mini-habit 4: Study bad habits and put them into your villains. Then add an archetype and stack some psychology on top of it.
Mini-habit 5: Write a quick poem of the most emotional part of your life.
Mini-habit 6: Select a random novel that you have, and go to the first chapter then write down a sentence about the character. Then choose another novel and go to the end of that book and write down another sentence of that particular character then create a list of ideas by marrying the type of characters.
Mini-habit 7: Set a writing schedule to "less is more" that means 15 minutes a day for 5 days straight rather than 2 hours one day and 3 hours the other.
Mini-habit 8: Create a fairy tale from a modern day perspective with modern day troubles.
Mini-habit 9: Sit in a public restaurant and listen in quietly on a conversation. Then listen to the stories and create dialogue as well as story.
Mini-habit 10: Write down five things you want to achieve today when marketing your material. Only achieve it today.
Mini-habit 11: Gather everything you’ve written copyright it and protect it and share it with the world.
Mini-habit 12 - Figure out your inner and outer goal for your character. In Silence of the Lambs the inner goal was to silence the nightmarish lamb dreams inside of her. The outer goal was to capture Buffalo Bill. The inner goal was never satisfied or completed. The outer goal was... The inner goal left us wanting a sequel. I believe it is good to carve out an inner and outer goal that is very strong.

You have to test things out and be playful, as writers we tend to get so serious. We often miss that playful muse taking breaks are very valuable. Good luck! Re-steem! Upvote! Share! Follow!

I've never heard these kinds of pre-writing/generative exercises called mini-habits but I love that.

I'm going to try out 2 and 12. Thanks for sharing these!

A mini habit is anything that you can work on in small steps.
