When you want to work on your writing it is crucial to break down things to the lowest common denominator, and work on each skill as if it was a mini-habit. A mini-habit is a tiny repetitions that create larger good quality habits. Mini-habits is a book by the way that is functional and helpful. It will help all aspects of life. You first understand how habits are created and what scientifically strengthens a habit. This is much like the Japanese Kaizen method.

Practice each writing mini-habit one by one:

1. Create good solid sentences. Good solid structured sentences. Different sentences patterns and experiment with them daily. Mini-habit: Make them your legos that you snap together and enjoy the process of "just creating sentences."
2. Conversational writing. Add personality in your writing, and make it a two way conversation. This type of writing strikes at the audience and addresses them directly. Mini-habit with this: Use contractions and tell stories.
3. Choice speech. Choose your words carefully; however, scrutinize them and find a word that can say more with less. We don't need long verbose discussions. We can get lost in explanation and deviate from main points. Mini-habit: Write a sentence and use a thesaurus and choose 10 different words.
4. Create smooth writing transitions so you can flow from sentence to sentence. There are transitional devices in writing. They are to be practiced as a Mini habit. Below is an example:

Bill I like that outfit, and you like good in that suit.

This sentence shows how you can add to something your talking about. Again a different example:

Wow Bill, you look great in that suit; furthermore, you are looking real sharp. Furthermore is being used to once again add on to the original idea of wearing a suit. This is the idea of adding on to an original point.

Let's see how we can use it as an exception rather than adding on to the point.

Bill you look great in that suit; however, if makes your waist look big.

These are just examples I feel you should study transitional devices.

Find your voice, and experiment with it. I am a cut and dry with deadpan humor. I prefer to write that way as well. I can express myself verbally this way and I work on writing that way with mini-habits.

5. Experiment with switching punctuation and Rhetorical devices. Rhetorical devices can be used to make you "dwell" longer on the words to make them mentally sink in. Here is an example of Yoda:

“Truly wonderful the mind of a child is.” – Yoda
Why didn't he just say "The mind of a child is truly wonderful?"

They wanted you to dwell on the words for a moment and let it sink in. You can do a mini-habit of working Rhetorical devices, and you can find hundreds. Mini-habit: You can start with 5. That's 5 rhetorical devices a week.
6. Outline your content. Pick a topic. Develop a list of talking points for that topic. Organize the main points into a structure. Bang out a rough draft. Review, revise, and adjust. All of this is a mini-habit.
7. Practice writing quotes that FLOAT in your reader’s minds. Pick one powerful phrase in your writing and make it a quote. Mini-habit: Make it stand out with a header that is a little larger. Mini habit - Scour your article for the strongest emotional sentence and emphasize it.
8. Whip up a cool metaphor. Your blog post is a bland soup. How to make your blog post a delicious alphabet soup. They are used in sales a great deal and we as humans occasionally think in metaphors. Mini-habit: Google 100 metaphor examples.
9. Create a small story. This can be fun and exciting. Then learn how to convey that story. Mini-habit homework: Google The Heroes Journey. See if the format can apply to your story in order to help you structure it.
