StoryTrax RETURNS! - The Adventures I See in Music - 009 - Breakfast (Factories Part Two)

in #writing7 years ago

Every song tells a story to me. Fascinating visuals broadcast through my mind like an IMAX presentation when I close my eyes and put my headphones on. I'd like to give you a glimpse into what I see, so feel free to hit play as I present the stories I've found while listening to some of my favorite tracks.

StoryTrax RETURNS! After a long break I was once again motivated through the power of music to continue a story that was left hanging oh so long ago. If you missed it, or just want a refresher, part one is over HERE.

Today's Track is a special one! @jessamynorchard gave me permission to feature her latest track "A Healthy Breakfast" off of the amazing Electronic Cassette album . If you like it, show your love on her post HERE!

009 - Breakfast (Factories Part Two)

Hailey's gaze was transfixed on the data chip. Delivered to her after a group of cultist ninjas did...something to the factory during her maintenance shift. One of them told her it contained the truth of how her reality worked, but the funny thing about the truth is everyone claims to know it, and she didn't want to get involved in a war. After all, the factory she worked in cranked out large-scale war machines for High Command in their ongoing war against the Concave.

Caught in the divide, she supported neither side. Sure, she worked at the factory that manufactured death, but it was a good paying job that required little effort on her part. Most everything was automated and she was little more than secondary validation to the algorithms that monitored every moment there. How there wasn't a swarm of High Command soldiers descending in drop pods from the thousands of different alarms that should have been triggered crossed her mind, adding to the mystery of the data chip.

A curious mind will always win in the end, she thought, and there's little harm in just seeing what propaganda this little silicon unit contained. She opened one of her hip-pouches and pulled out a burner sheet, a thin roll of translucent viewscreen that had no connections to the web and could be disposed of easily if need be. Hailey snapped the tiny chip in to the lower corner of the device, and a single video file started its autoplay procedure.

The entire border of the screen scrolled a variety of stylized and artistic symbols, and Hailey picked out a variety of languages from hieroglyphics to celtic runes, though she knew not what they meant. In the center of the screen images flashed rapidly. Esoteric depictions of a conspiracy theorist's wet dream rapidly flashed by. The mechanic caught only a fraction of what was flashing by, images of chakras, the pyramids of Egypt and South America, the flower of life, images of constellations, craters, mathematical formulas, photos of great scientists and thinkers, depictions of gods of what must have been every known religion.

But none of the colors were right. At first glance everything was in negative tones, with odd flashes and globs of color rapidly flickering against the grain of every image as they flashed by in rapid succession. Images of world wars past and great atrocities, olympic events and human achievements. But how did this prove anything? What truth was there to be had? A minute later and everything faded to black, and the familiar replay button appeared.

It was at this moment that Hailey remembered to blink. In the fraction of a second while her eyes were closed, she swore she saw faces staring back at her and clearly hear the word "listen" spoken aloud as if someone was right there. She jumped in place, startled as she tried to make sense of it all. She figured she was likely still in shock, her entire nervous system being tested with the events from just a few minutes prior. She started to roll up the burner sheet, when it clicked. She only watched the video, but the burner sheet didn't have a speaker.

Hailey paired her headset, but before she could bring herself to watch it again, she found herself famished. A second playthrough could wait just a moment. With a shift as early as hers, it's important to bring a healthy breakfast with you to work. Deciding on food first, she figured she could watch it again as she ate.

I like this format with the music, not seen it before online 😎 Intriguing story, I'm glad she values her breakfast!

Thanks, I strive to try to bring something a little different to the platform. I have a bunch of others, and most of them are one-shots. Check em out if you liked this one, or keep your eyes and ears peeled for the next one!
