Transform

in #writing6 years ago

Windy apparitions float around me
I dream I can fly but I am only a seal
Confined to seven seas

I swim on as the song of years sweetly passes by
Oh to be a man to live and die
Above the ocean tides

I jump above the surface
But my fins never transform
To allow me to walk on still waters

Strangely I have developed knees
Only to tremble with Jello in the marrow
And collapse at the slightest breeze

The storm picks up raging
Above me sunshine hurls its spit
If I wasn’t so edgy I’d just have to quit

I’m gonna take one more jump
The giant leap from seal to man
Down to the depths I dive deeper

Seeing but not willing to understand
The thoughts that rush past me
As I reach the underworld land

I rise up flying out of the dark
My fins transform to wings on grandeur
Only to be pelted by heaven’s rain of dilapidated tar

I fall to the cold roadside
Unable to open my eyes
To see the lump of dust I have become

Swirls of awaken thunder
As breath fills my lungs
There I see the reflection a man

No fins on my side but hands
Feet to walk dry ground
In the pinnacle of nadir

The moment I arise
Perpetrators are at hand
Devising schemes of all surprises

Come to Jack-in-the-Box kitchen
Sand dust is served
For your eyes are hungry

Open and have a bite
The content is gulling
Past the unscathed

Smoothed over by molten lava
Bleeding eyes dangle
Conjoined cripple knees
Crawl out the water

Transformed to only
Half the man I used to be

After a night of tossing and turning this is the dream that showed up. Feel free to interpret it any way you want. I see it as time to move on and start a new stage in life. I don’t actually know what the poem means but the words came to me when I was asleep and I recorded an audio file when I was half awake. When I was in Chicago I spend some time watching the seals and dolphins and made some videos. Maybe that has something to do with the dream, but I think this dream says a lot more.

As I looked into I am not the only one to think about Seals changing into humans. When I read into this some more there is a Scottish legend about the Selkies. On land they are like men, but when they are in the water they become transformed into Seals. http://roanefamilytree.com/The_Seal_Men.html
I guess my dream was like this but in a reverse process.

Good and meaningful poetry @mineopoly

Warm regards

Thanks you. Hope the best for you.

When I started reading your poem, I felt it showed a process of becoming human ~ the first life-form coming from the sea.
Perhaps you read something in the bible that played out in your dream. I like the idea you may have in your genes some blood of the sealshapers. Love those mythological stories! U&R

Thanks for reading and giving some thought @redheadpei,

I think I wasn't quite satisfied as a seal but found this life on dry ground more disheartening than expected. Still there's no reason to complain.

It's now Thanksgiving in those fifty states below you. I thank God I'm alive today. My friend opened his eyes and now the doctors allow visitors. He still has no muscle control. He can't breathe on his own. He was what the world would call "successful" but his life is so fragile. I am thankful for the life and family given to me and appreciate them even more.
