How did you find out about Steemit? This is my story! And...what’s yours?

in #writing6 years ago (edited)

It was mid December 2017. My day off if I recall correctly and the weather was really bad. Heavy rainfall... And since I don’t own a car but a bike, it seemed that I was doomed to spend my day off indoors, which is the worst thing that can happen to me....

Anyway, after watching tv for a couple of hours and listening to some music for another couple I felt like a zombie...or even better like a beast in the cage.

What the heck?

It was already noon and at that point I was convinced that it was going to be a wasted day...my day off...
Seemed I was running out of options.

So I opened Facebook and started scrolling down my home page. At this point I want to mention that my desire to look if I had new friend requests or how many likes did my post have, had already started to faint months ago.
Facebook wasn’t as exciting as it used to be for me...not even as an idea.

But it seemed like the best option at the moment in order to kill my time...

So as I was scrolling down I came up with an article that caught my attention. It was talking about the changes that need to be done on the internet in order to be attractive again. So after reading the whole thing I started reading the comments (which was my best part actually)

Somewhere among the hundreds of comments there was that guy who was replying to another guy saying: Dude are you still on Facebook? Go check Steemit. You should have joined...months ago.

Steemit? What the hell is that?

As you can imagine I immediately started digging on the web about that Steemit thing.
”Decentralization, blockchain, cryptos” I was totally unfamiliar with these words. But looked so promising... getting paid for blogging?

It could be exactly what I was looking for!

No second thoughts made that moment. I visited the site and registered. I still remember all the precautionary things mentioned during the registration. Never forget the user name you provided nor the code. Write them down in a piece of paper and also store them on a file

Looked pretty damn serious stuff

The most frustrating thing that I remember is that it took them nearly a month to get me verified...and that happened on the 10th of January. At last! I don’t really know if it still takes the same amount of time for someone to be verified but I can assure everyone that it worth the wait. At least from my perspective.

So long story short, here I am, six full months after that day. More persistent than ever, trying daily to improve my writings, engaging with people as much as I can and dreaming big

Could this be the factor that will change my life forever? Which will improve my financial status? Nobody really knows. What really matters at the moment is that it is a brand new world with countless possibilities.

Therefore I see no reason why this wouldn’t work!

Steemit / steem made me dream big. It was an unknown world to me until then. But day by day I see the opportunity we all have. To create something so big that will change worlds perspective about cryptocurrencies forever

I am a huge believer of this revolution and from my side I try to convince as many people as I can to join this world. Our world. I don’t always succeed but I keep trying. If there is one thing that I regret is that I didn’t have the information and knowledge to enter Steemit earlier.

All we have to do is work together...and spread the word

So...what is your story?

Until next time...

@tjkirk aka The Amazing Atheist. He made a video about how he was starting on Steemit/DTube because YouTube had been demonetizing so many people and he made more on here, so I decided to check it out. I've kept it mostly to blogging, but I am also a YouTuber who has been demonetized, so it is an attractive platform for such people.

Personally, I think Steemit should be going to YouTubers trying to pull them here instead. It is a great opportunity that the site should be taking advantage of.

There are many people who are trying to convince famous Youtubers to join Steemit and a few of them are already here. Slowly but steadily more and more people are attracted by the platform. Look for example the @hodgetwins or @louisthomas or @furiouspete123 and so many others. Even great authors and journalists.

well i have the same story like you.. my youtube channel was suspended so i am finding new source for earning.. and this is how i find out about dtube.. i am a newbie so i hope.. everybody will help me..

As I said to another newcomer, it is a long way but if you follow the right path you will enjoy the ride. Try to engage with people, visit other blogs, make useful comments in order to be noticed and find people to interact with the same interests.
Thanks for dropping by!

Thank you very much for advice... i will try my best..

I really enjoy how captivating your introduction is. It's important to me as a reader because I need to be hooked into a good read right off the bat.

I am new to Steemit, as I just got approved last night, while the process took about two weeks. Thanks for the interesting content and story!

Thank you for your kind words and also for stopping by!

I've been a writer and blogger for years. Mostly write stuff for people and get paid at the end of it. For a writer, you would have thought that I would take the time to create a blog but noooo. No time to spare unfortunately.
I kept telling a colleague of mine at work that I would pick up the slack and start the blog soon. He scoffed and told me about steemit.
I would normally wait to get home before reading up on stuff like this but this time, I used the office WiFi to read up on steem and steemit. To be honest, it was really worth the read.
I signed up shortly after and within a few days, my account had been approved. This was way back in December of 2017. I only came around to start using the platform recently and boy, I wish I had started back when I was approved.

I only came around to start using the platform recently and boy, I wish I had started back when I was approved.

The same goes for me...
But even now I still consider myself as an early adopter...Steemit will be here for years(hopefully)
Imagine those who will find out about Steemit in 2 - 3 -4 years

You have a long way to go my friend but I promise you it will worth every minute of it

welcome to the magical new world............
with words like hash, block chain......etc. oh my God there are many
new things available to be discovered!!, then booom while searching on the web i found someone talk about "steemit" and the rest is almost the same like your story, glad to be here and hope to get the best.
ty for reading

Welcome abroad!

nice post @mindtrap . i am also today posted my new and first dtube video ever on dtube platform you like to watch it see it once

Thank you @kitani
I’ll definitely visit you!

That means you came on steemit accidentally...and some accidental moment gives us a great opportunity...

Although it is an unknown world for everyone we will make it easy by working together for sure...

I couldn't agree more!
Yes as I said...completely accidentaly

In my case, I discovered Steemit on Facebook. Mr. @Jerrybanfield has this promotion about Steemit. He was talking about what it is and what potential it could be. I was intrigued so I gave it a try and the last thing I knew, I became a Steemian.

On the first months, I am one of those people who are filled with energy and just keeps going because we are getting noticed. Everybody was there to welcome me as a new member of the Steemit community.

But as days go by, I felt a bit off track. Like, where is everybody? Is my contents aren't worthy enough for an upvote? Why am I not getting any engagement? That's when I started questioning the platform and myself as well. That time I was foolish not believing in potential. Now I am wiser because I believe.

I'll admit that I was inactive for months and not only once and I regret it. I should've never lost passion. I should have persevered more even though with little attention. Good thing we have the power to make a change.

I may have lost opportunities, friends, engagement, and my chance to spread what gift I have, it will not defer me from starting out again and believing in potential of everybody.

...just commenting. 😶

Interesting read. I am new here and this is my first post. The concept of steemit blockchain also seemed fascinating to me, that's why I decided to signup. Like you, I also discovered steemit through Jerrybanfied. I was watching a video on youtube and suddenly, he popped up in the ads. I've watched a few of his videos, especially on T-shirt designs and was a bit curious as to what he had to say. Needles to point out that the ad was a lenghty one and to my surprise, I actually watched the full video. It took me about a week to sign up and after the sign up wait time of about a month, well, I'm here.

I am excited to begin my baby steps on this platform and explore what it has to offer.

The most important question is: What you have to offer?

Make sure to be yourself. And never care about what others might think off your writings and your posts. That is the best advise I can give you

I'll heed to that ... thanks!

Yeah it was a lengthy video and he had me hooked that I also finished watching it until the end. Now that you mentioned it, I also waited a month or so I guess for the membership confirmation.

I may have lost opportunities, friends, engagement, and my chance to spread what gift I have, it will not defer me from starting out again and believing in potential of everybody.

It is never too late. You can make a fresh start. Start visiting other blogs. Make useful and smart comments. Don't focus on your blog only. Interact!!!
You will be noticed by the right people at no time. By right people I don't necessarily mean a whale or something. But from people who share the same ideas as you do.And be persistent. Never give up. This might be a chance to change your life.

I would also suggest to check all the Dapps and see if you could create content there.
Dtube, Dlive etc

Thank you and yes, I'm doing it many more times than I do before.

To be you is the best way to stand out among the rest. I don't really want to go that point alone though, because what's the point in getting it major if you're alone. That kind of success can't be called happiness I believe.

Right now I don't see myself engaging in Dapps, Dtube, Dlive etc. Not that I dislike them, I want to focus first in rebuilding my blog. I hope that someday I'll see myself creating contents in those sites as well. ^^

Your story is very interesting. My first time approached steemit by ads on YouTube. This platform can make me think big .

I didn't know that Youtube advertised Steemit. This is good to hear.

Well Mr.Mindtrap: You are now on success track, keep going and encourage the peoples to do...
